Trading guards

I think it is interesting to read discussion on Kruger "missing" on some guards in the '12,'13, and '14 classes. I have seen people say that OU should have gotten Marcus Foster, James Woodard, Josh Richardson (maybe he was 2011?), Stevie Clark, Omega Harris etc

I have thought about it and I wouldn't take James Woodard or Josh Richardson over any combination of Buddy, Hornbeak or Cousins. I also wouldn't have taken Marcus Foster or Stevie Clark over Jordan Woodard. Some may disagree but I wouldn't trade Frank Booker (think he will be a stud before he leaves) for either of those too either (especially since we have Jordan).

I don't really see a reason to add Omega Harris with our guard depth.

Don't get me wrong, Richardson, Foster, James Woodard are all good players, and I do think Stevie would be good in the right environment. But I wouldn't trade them for the guys that Lon signed!

For the most part, I agree with you.

But I'll add this. It's not fair to simply compare the players, b/c the non-OU kids aren't getting Lon Kruger coaching. So the question at this point becomes, which of those kids, if any, would be better than what we have, or have a higher ceiling, with Lon's coaching?

I don't have an answer to that. But off your list Foster is the one kid I'd wonder about. He is going to be a good one. I never really wanted the older Woodard, or Stevie Clark. And it's obvious to me that Harris didn't improve enough his senior year to keep an OU offer.

I might not feel the same way if we miss on all of Grandstaff, Trier, and Shake though. I'd really like to land at least one of those guys.

I would like one of them also but I would understand if we missed. Likely that kid doesn't get a lot of pt his 1st year but would likely start as a sophomore.

I'd trade him for Jelon or Isiah. Foster is legit.

I don't know who I'd trade him for but Coach is right. He'd start for us. Potential all-conference next season.

The question is really unfair.....it's hard to tell how the players we didn't get would have performed under Kruger's coaching. I think Foster is the obvious choice of the ones you mentioned, but who really knows?

It would have been great to get Foster. I'm very satisfied with our guards but he is a player. It might have been a difficult situation trying to get minutes for all of them.

Wouldn't he be at OU rather than Booker?

I thought he was a true freshman. If he is a true freshman, he would have no impact on Cousins signing. I only say Booker wouldn't be at OU because I assume OU would not have signed 3 guards. I am happy with Booker. I think he is going to be a good player for OU.

I think we would still take Booker and not take one of the JUCOS that didnt make it anyway. Kruger loves his guards. It would make it even harder to land Grandstaff next year if we have Foster too. Not enough minutes to go around
