I'm watching the GT/UGA game and the announcer (Shawn Farnham) gushed over Trae after showing him on his all-freshman team.
When he compared the freshman team against his all-senior team, he said Young is better than Tra Holder for ASU.
He said, "If you're not watching Trae Young every single night he takes the court, you're missing out. You're not really a true basketball fan."
They also showed a graphic with Young's stats tonight - 26 pts and 22 ast - and he said, "Don't adjust your monitors. That's a 20/20 game and it's not about rebounds. In the last 20 years of college basketball, that hasn't happened once...That is an unbelievable performance and he's doing it every single night. He's one of the top scorers in the country and he's one of the national leaders in assists."
They went on to talk about how 22 assists tied the NCAA record of Sherman Douglass and Avery Johnson and it broke the Big 12 record of 19. The co-announcer said, "22 assists in a 40 minute game, that's almost impossible." And Farnham commented, "And he only played 29 minutes...that's ridiculous."
Farnham also said he doesn't agree with the comparisons to Steph Curry and others, as he thinks Young is carving out his own career path and place in college basketball this season.
They must have talked about Young for 5 minutes and, again, this was during the broadcast of an ACC/SEC game while they're playing...none of it was during a timeout.
