Trae Young

What are the chances that we can actually land Young? I know some folks inside the program believe they are good, but is it realistic? Isn't he still considering transferring to Las Vegas/prep school next year?

Based on what his final list of schools ends up being and everything I've heard here and on Twitter, I'd put us conservatively at 30-35% chance and possibly a slight leader right now. They're considering 2 prep schools right now; the Findlay Prep in Vegas and a really good one in Orlando (forgot the name). There seems to be a decent chance he stays in Norman for his Senior season; stay near friends, has a girlfriend, North returns a really good nucleus for 2016-17, etc. If he does, OUr chances go up that much more IMO. They hope to decide after his summer AAU. Mom would like him to stay close (OU or KU) and dad wants him to keep his options open and pick the best place to develop his game. Will probably come down to us, Kentucky, or KU. Calipari is apparently really pushing them to go the prep school route.

This kid is amazing and the most important recruit in ou bball history imo. Love the kids demeanor. Just a quiet assassin who gets just as excited about his own shots as the passes he makes. Elite dribbling, shooting, passing, and excellent vision with those tiny Windows.

I'll get killed for this, but i think he'd start over cousins this season. Flame away

Thank you for the update. It would be great to get him no doubt. He is likely a 1 and done player no matter where he goes, correct?

I think he'd be a 2-3 year guy at least. I haven't seen him in person yet but I don't see him as a one and done at all.

He's have a career similar to Buddy if he goes to OU. If he goes to Duke or Kentucky he'd be just another guy.

Ill take the bait. NO chance he starts over Isiah, Isiah would wear him out.

I am not arguing but from what I hearing is that he is going to Florida next year.

Norman North will have Crutchfield and the stoops boys next year. The rest of the guys won't be back next year if what I am hearing is true. The big kid is a junior however he has been to 4 schools in 5 years, I don't see him staying.

I do know that Trae likes OU but might want to get away from home some. THe prep school might be a good thing if that is true. He may get away and find out that he wants to be back in Norman with family. :chestram2:

Yes I don't think he has the athleticism to be a one and done player. Very similar to Tyus Jones. Jones is a better PG, Young is a better scorer.

If we want to continue winning at the level we are right now it really is important to lock up a kid that literally lives on campus. Obviously he won't make or break our program but I think it would be a little disheartening to see him leave the state.

But if he leaves. We tried everything possible.

I kind of expect him to go to Florida. I just don't think it's a certainty.

A high school coach from OKC area told me last weekend a couple of schools have backed away from Trae. One starts with a D and the other with a K.

Any idea why they have backed away from him?

I finally had a chance to watch Trae in person last week and he is every bit as good as advertised. He did not have a great shooting night, but did hit a couple of nice 3's and got to the basket at ease when he needed to score. He was being boxed from half court the entire game and still took control when needed. I would love to have him at OU and I am sure he will be tremendous wherever he ends up signing (at least for a year).

I scouted him for the first half against Ed Santa Fe. I live in The Woodlands Tx and see some high level HS talent. I agree that Trae is very athletic and talented. I had seen some video from last year and thought that he was a 3 pt gunner, but looked a little to frail to be a D1 stud. I did not know if he had the athletic ability to be good on D.
Here are my comments:
He has gotten a lot thicker and stronger He has the tools to be an excellent defender.
Quick feet and hands and good defensive technique, but he did not play good D every possession.

He can finish strong at the rim. Excellent first step and elevation.
He could be a great playmaker and has good passing skills.
He was taking shots from 23-30+' and missing most, but not missing by much.
With proper shot selection, he could avg. 45+% in college
He does have a good temperament and did not get upset with a few ? calls.
Summary:
I can see why KY and Duke are recruiting him. He has the strength, quickness, and skills to be D1 stud. He is a much better prospect than last years videos show.
