Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

really...thats all you got?
TMG
WW
Tiny
I consider Crocker a capel recruit.

Crocker grew up in Oklahoma and would have played for OU even if Satan were the coach. He originally committed to Sampson and OU, so he's a Sampson recruit, IMO.

I didn't count TMG, WW, or Tiny because they are all listed in the malcontent category. 2 of the 3 probably won't be here next year (WW and Tiny) and I'm not sold that TMG is coming back if he's skipping study hall in February.

These 3 can be in the discussion (of best Capel recruits not named Blake Griffin) if they make it to their junior year unless they are a lottery pick in the NBA before then.

fine, take crocker. even though capel still had to recruit him.

this quote contains some of the most speculation and misinformation and wrong thinking that I have seen in awhile:ez-laugh:

not even worth debunking

TMG and Tiny will be here.

WW will get drafted (outside the lottery).

No, Capel didn't have to recruit Crocker because Crocker was the only recruit who didn't re-open his recruiting after Sampson left and Capel took the job.

As for your comment about the rest, it may be misinformation to you, but I have some pretty good info that Tiny won't be here next year as well as WW. I guess we will see in the next 30 days or so.

yep, Capel didn't have to even talk to Crocker and meet him. Crocker was going to be ok with however OU hired...didn't matter.

Maybe I've misunderstood the quote in the article posted yesterday but it says:

He and Capel tried to keep the signing class intact. It also included current Sooner Tony Crocker and Jeremy Mayfield, who went to Alabama-Birmingham and became a starter. Castiglione kept the families abreast of the coaching search, and Capel took re-recruiting visits to each home.

But to the anguish of the Sooners, all but Crocker reopened the process.

So, Capel visited Crocker and his family once and the kid stayed with OU, but the other 3 (not counting Clark) all decided to re-open their recruitment?

Like I said, Satan could have been hired to be the coach at OU and Crocker still would have come here to play. Just like with Sam Bradford in football...he grew up an OU fan and would have played in Norman with or without Bob Stoops.

by that theory, he isn't a Sampson recruit either, as he was a done deal to OU regardless of the coach

I agree. Good point.

Seems like he actually committed to OU at one point and Sampson commented that we weren't even recruiting him or something. Or maybe an "insider" such as Hale, commented he had committed but wasn't even being recruited (by OU). It's been a few years but I vaguely remember that...

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

How exactly are Tiny and TMG malcontents? Tiny's suspension is over, and was dismissed pretty swiftly, and TMG has skipped study hall -- just like every student I've ever met.

How many times has each of them been suspended or didn't start for some disciplinary reason? Why is TMG skipping study hall in February? Isn't that something you do in November?

A kid who gets in trouble as much as Tiny and TMG are malcontents in my book. Maybe I'm wrong, but one of them won't be here next season...maybe both listening to Capel's comments.

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

i hope somebody saves this thread

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

TMG hasn't been suspended once, as far as I know, and why does any kid skip study hall? Being irresponsible every once in a while does not make you a "malcontent".

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

Also, I don't think either of them are going anywhere next year. I certainly hope not, at least, considering that TMG is nearly a lock for Big 12 freshmen of the year. If you really think that booting TMG and Tiny next year will somehow improve this team I'd love to hear who you believe would replace them.

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

There is no way Gallon and TMG are both gone next year....if they both decide to transfer then capel needs to immediately be on the hot seat simply due to the fact that his players are transfering way to much of that happens....both gallon and tmg will be back next year

What proof does anyone have that they are even thinking of transferring? Missing study hall is no proof at all...has someone actually talked to these kids, have they made comments what?

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

Capel's coaching job (X's and O's) is fine

Your joking right? How can anyone say the X's and O's are fine when OU is going to post a losing record and does not even compete on the road. There may be issues with psychology but this team also just doesn't play sound basketball. They can't play man to man or zone at a Big XII level.

Then you haven't paid attention. He and Tiny could not start due to suspension because they got back from Christmas Break late (missed a practice). I think they got a half game each. That was actually probably one of Capel's biggest mistakes this season. He should have sat them for a whole game maybe two but it is easy to make that call in retrospect.

I will bet you money if a player ever misses practice again, Capel comes down on them super hard. He is young and he is learning.

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

I guarantee you that guys like Sam and Gerald from the football team skipped some study hall sessions and those guys are freaking brainiacs and we all well know they are far from malcontents lol.

You can guarantee this? How can you guarantee it? Get me a quote from Schmitty or Stoops that says they skipped study hall and I'll believe it. Or, get me a quote from Sam or Gerald like TMG posted on his facebook page.

I can guarantee you they didn't skip a study hall.
