Based on his behavior this year, I'd want to get away from him too.
This.If money is what determines importance (ie, baseball, softball, wrestling, etc. do not matter) then just skip to the end game. Drop all non profitable sports and sell contracts or create sport specific pro organizations to take over management the remaining few dozen or so sports teams in bball and football that make money. Everyone else can stop lighting money on fire, and you can solve the free agent problem since it would be private enterprise and not gov institutions that “own” the teams.
Because we have fans that support it over sports that matter like CBB. Softball is not huge nationwide. The ratings are meh and the following is basically OU and that's it. It's a crap sport.I don't get what you get out of hating something OU is good at. Just don't watch. Why bash it? Softball is huge, nationwide. But because tarheel doesn't like it, it's a crap sport.
Do it to it. Amen and yes please. Spoke to a d1 asst in state. Was talking to him about nil, rev share etc, reloading teams …
He said we went to dinner last night, (few weeks back) and had a recruit and 2 handlers. End of dinner, handlers say let’s cut to it, visits been great, but we both know what’s important… how much is the offer?
You'd think that could be handled by phone instead of wasting people's time with small talk. In the end most of these kids are going to the highest offer.Spoke to a d1 asst in state. Was talking to him about nil, rev share etc, reloading teams …

Softball has come a long way in the last 15-20 years. It has increased in popularity across the country. It used to be a strictly west coast sport. The National Tournament has also been very good to Oklahoma City. It contributes to the economy.Because we have fans that support it over sports that matter like CBB. Softball is not huge nationwide. Garrison did not visit KentuckyNot surprising. At least they did more due diligence than garrison did with Kentucky. Dude never even visited, right?

Huge may be a bit too big but softball is much more popular than the credit you are giving it. I'm 1400 miles from Norman and softball is pretty big in my area. Travel and AAU year round. Outside spring to fall and indoors in the winter. Girls from 10U through D3 travel all over the east coast for spring tournaments. I have a friend whose daughter just graduated from a D3 school in 2024. They started each year she was there with a 10 day, 10 game opening non-con slate. Not a bad budget for a D3 school.Because we have fans that support it over sports that matter like CBB. Softball is not huge nationwide. I've lived in Greenville, SC for the majority of my life. The only time I've seen or met anyone that mentioned softball was high school, Oklahoma Sooners Forums, and ESPN during the Softball Tournament. For the most part, no one talks about softball around here and I've lived overseas for years and months at a time and no one talks about softball there either.Huge may be a bit too big but softball is much more popular than the credit you are giving it. I don't care about the economy to Oklahoma City.Softball has come a long way in the last 15-20 years. It has increased in popularity across the country. It used to be a strictly west coast sport. The National Tournament has also been very good to Oklahoma City. It contributes to the economy.
I’m a season ticket holder in football, but I happen to enjoy softball, basketball, and baseball. I’m happy for the success of gymnastics and golf. It would a real shame to drop sports to invest even more money in football. If so many of these SEC schools can support all of these sports, I don’t see why can’t do it as well.
You have every right to not like softball, but the juvenile name calling is not fair or accurate.
You’re right. NIL will put so much pressure on schools that they will be forced to drop any sport that doesn’t bring in revenue to make sure their basketball and football teams are competitive. I don’t want that to happen necessarily, even though I think colleges have gone alittle crazy with the amount of sports there are. They could probably cut out things like golf and lacrosse, and sand volleyball.I don't care about the economy to Oklahoma City.
The sports you're speaking of are going to eventually have to drop because NIL matters more than ever in football and basketball and when it happens, I'll super thankful that OU and it's admin saw the light and dropped the sports that don't matter in the grand scheme.
Josh M over at SS said the non net profit sports are eventually going to have to go away to keep up with NIL in both basketball in football. Just the way it is, until someone fixes this NIL system in general. It's been a pleasure, but don't try to say how relevant softball is nationwide, when their ratings are still worse than the NHL's ratings and even the Champions Leagues ratings here (how else are we going to view popularity? Hearsay?)
For comparison's sake, the Champions League final (the best game in soccer unless the World Cup is happening) garnered 2.32 million nationwide. Which was more than the best game in softballs world series. So yeah.......https://apnews.com/article/champions-league-ratings-c68156e0181cc8284467ca89b79dbe29
I think Sankey already said they are gonna end up cutting sports to 18 during the congressional meetings last week and some other college president agreed. You’re right. That's crazy. Wonder what the 18 will be? I know some of the Olympic sports will have to go like fencing.I think Sankey already said they are gonna end up cutting sports to 18 during the congressional meetings last week and some other college president agreed.
