Transfer Portal 2025

He was around 5.1 FTs per game last year. If he can be around that or get around 6 per game that's about what Fears was doing. Should open up the shooters we have with Pack, Jones, and Forsythe.

Pack is closer to Fears than Elvis
Agreed that Pack is a lead guard in the way that Fears is a lead guard. Clearly, Fears is more of a score-first guy than Pack, but Pack shoots it better. Fears length on defense made him better on that side of the ball, but he was not good in off-ball rotations.

Reading the tea leaves as of right now:

PG1 – Jeremiah Fears > Nijel Pack
SG1 – Duke Miles = Xzayvier Brown
W1 – Brycen Goodine << Jadon Jones
PF1 – Jalon Moore = Tae Davis
C – Wague Jr. < Wague Sr.

PG2 – Forsythe Fr < Forsythe Soph
SG2 – Kobe Elvis ?? Portal Transfer
W2 – Glenn Taylor << Jeff Nwankwo
PF2 / C3 – Luke Northweather ?? Portal Transfer
C2 – Sam Godwin = Khamari McGriff

Kai Rodgers
Andreas Holst
Kuol Atak
Alec Blair

As of right now, that looks like marginally better than last year's team, with a chance for Nwankwo to surprise and start at the 2 or us to bring in another game-changer at 2 guard and move xzayvier to 6th man role. Need to fill one more wing guard (should have enough ball-handlers with Pack, Brown, and Forsythe). We do have one more frontcourt opening, but we'll have 3 guys on the bench over 6'9" that might fill in that space, and we could go all in on the last guard position.

Pack has averaged around 2-2.5 fts per game his career. Brown averaged 5.1 per game. Brown is more a guy that can get to the basket and take over games like Fears could last year. Pack averages more 3s than 2s in his career.
Last year Brown averaged 7.5 2PA per game and 4.9 3PA per game and 5.1 FTs per game. He's more of the Fears type. Maybe we have situations where both can play point in certain lineups but it looks to me like Brown is our primary PG based on his numbers.

Brown is your PG if he ends up here. Pack’s got plenty of experience playing off the ball too. It’d look more like this:

Brown
Pack
Jones/Nwankwo
Davis
Wague

Brown's lines against good teams this year:

Villanova - 18 points, 13 assists
Texas - 15 points, 1 assist
UAB (NIT) - 21 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 4 steals
Texas Tech - 20 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
VCU - 22 points, 5 assists, 7 rebounds

Shooting stats were below his averages across those games (to be expected), but went 30-32 from the free throw line in those games. I'm all in on this guy. If we have to send one of Nwankwo, Jones, Brown, and Pack to the bench, we're in really good shape at the guard position.

This is what I was thinking too. Sell Pack on displaying positional versatility at the wing and point.

maybe i missedit, but has the brown kid commit? Or are we just hoping he does?
He’s not even in the portal yet but when asked about where he would be connected, Trilly only gave OU as an answer. That’s not going to happen unless there’s a reason.

Obviously not a sure thing but there’s reason for hope.

At center: Wague and rogers
At pf: Davis and atak
At sf: Jones and nwonkwo
At guard: Dayton and pack

Swing post: Holst

All in all, looks pretty solid but several unknowns

Needs imo: 2 guards and proven rebounder.

Wish list: Proven center, proven point, proven shooter

If you watch the ball screen reps from Brown you see why he’d be really good playing a similar role to the one Fears had. Guys like this are needed for this style of offense to function at a high level. They initiate the numbers game in the half court.

The Villanova clip I posted has a bunch, then you see stuff like this:

Clear control and understanding of the push/pull that has to take place, also where the holes are, and whether to beat a defender on his own vs drawing guys to him, explosion to hit the opening plus the vision to cap it. Teammate would end up on the line with a shot fake.
