Transfer Portal 2025

Gotta get another decent guard.
Yeah… not sure if we will. Need to have someone, can be even someone dirt cheap. Just make sure they are capable of handling the ball. Can’t roll into season with only 3 capable ball handlers on the roster

I’d guess there isn’t a power conference coach on the planet who would say a two inch height difference doesn’t matter much. Positional size is a huge factor.
I would say measurables would play a big part in this argument. Arm length and vertical leap primarily. 6'1" - 6'2" with long arms and springy plays bigger. On the flip side, can't have 4 guards in that range that don't fit that criteria. I have no idea how Perry measures.

Wait, Texas A&M is a better basketball school than OU?
right now? Yes.
Historically? No.

Seems kind of silly to say Duke is leaving because he won't have a starting spot here when Texas A&M has been better than OU the last couple of years

He definitely wasn’t going to start here next year. I think Dayton was going to jump him in the pecking order as well.

I do agree TAMU is better than us right now, though.

A&M has been better the past couple of seasons, but just lost the coach that brought all of that success. Granted, I love the hire they made but who knows how Bucky adjusts to high major play. A lot more room for Duke to squeeze himself into a starting line up with so much unknown and volatility at A&M than with the devil he knows in his situation at OU. I think that's the difference

You ever talked to Duke’s dad?

Lil silly is an understatement! But each to their own.

haven't read this yet but Evan does great work

Briefly skimmed over it... the main takeaway I got was that continuity with returning players is key, and they need to be major contributors in terms of minutes. Seems like a lot of the stuff he talked about is what OU has tried to do in the portal/recruiting.

Just read through it myself and his conclusions were that recruiting guys that will play multiple seasons with you is super important, whether that be freshman or transfers. He also noted that only teams with elite freshman AND top returners perform well. Teams that try to rely solely on freshman without the high end upperclassmen typically falter. Last major point was that it seems that the benchmark for successful teams is to have at least 50% of your minutes played by returning players. Interesting data points all around.

On Evan, there is an old saying that there are lies, damn lies and then statistics.

On Duke, he was essentially benched this year. Goodine moved into the starting lineup. As the year wore on, Dayton began taking some of his minutes. And, with Jones and Jeff coming back, he would have been competing with them. I liked Duke and wish he would have stayed but I can see where he thought he was likely to have a very reduced role in the team next year. One thing is for sure: Duke is not a point guard. He only has the handles to be a "short space" dribbler IMO, and he certainly didn't have the handles to be a point guard in the SEC. In my opinion, he was a good tough undersized wing. I thought he gave us good production and played winning basketball, but would have been a disaster at point. Fortunately, we had Fears, Kobie and Dayton for that role.

do u think miles thinks he's going to play professionally in the future?
getting more minutes or starting for a guy like him won't mean jack squat to his future earning potential in basketball.
he should definitely get the max nil he can get in the now.
