Transfer Portal 2025

Which they then supplemented with a lackluster portal class. It wasn't a good recruiting year. Every major publication has said this about both our high school and portal classes.
The amount of underclassmen that played and roster numbers that had to be under 105 for SEC they took a small number. The oline recruits are top teir, wilson on dline is really good,, the receivers are good. The portal , they got two starters, simmons and jones jr. Who shouldn't start that comes back for another year? TE was horrible but hopefully mitchell or kanak step up but they added older players in the portal as backups. This will be the best team venables has had.

I’ve heard our WRs are good for years. Let’s see how many games they actually play and how much they produce. And the TE recruits are jokes … we had the worst TE group in the country and somehow sighed even worse guys to that room.

We almost certainly will be better at QB, and maybe marginally better on the O-line. I don’t see many upgrades elsewhere, and we lost our two defensive leaders.

Again, if you read what neutral, national publications say, and not the biased crap that OU media puts out, you won’t find many people high on this team. If/when they struggle to get to .500, I don’t want to hear any excuses about how tough the schedule is, either. Everyone was all fired up about moving to the SEC and getting away from boring Big 12 home games, so it’s time to put up or shut up.

I expect OU to be extremely good on the DL this year and above average to very good on the OL. Jayden Jackson, Damonic Williams, and David Stone rotating on the interior with RMT and MJJ on the edges will be a filthy combo. Gotta hope a guy like PJ can figure it out too. The OL returns Howland, Ozaeta, Everett, and Nwaiwu from the starters at the end of the season who were actually starting to play decent ball. From all accounts, Derek Simmons will be a solid starter. EPL could break into one of the starting guard spots. Plus, we landed arguably the best OL class in the country this year.

If we are improved at the lines and at the QB position the way I'm anticipating, we could be in for a bounce back year. If we even had an offense with a pulse last year we likely go 8-4. However, you will not catch me defending the state of our TE room. That one area of the team is absolutely atrocious and how JJF still has a job at OU is beyond me.

Throw in a receiver corps that is not decimated by injury (and self-interest), too.

However, we have what some have said is the toughest schedule in the country. So the team could be significantly improved without a huge difference in our win-loss record. Hopefully fans will remember that as the season progresses. I don't know what we did to tick off the SEC before we even joined the conference, but they did us dirty in our first two seasons, schedule-wise, while coddling texas. This is a key season for improving the team's talent and performance, but the jump we all want to see in the number of games we win may not come till next season.

OL will be better because the offensive game plan will be better, if nothing else.

RMT will be better. DT's might be some of the best in the country. Kobie is no slouch at LB. The Daniels kid from osu is good. Eli Bowen, while small, won't be a true freshman. He needs to stay healthy, and I'm blanking on his name, but getting the CB back was going to start last year will help. Bowman was hit and miss last year, I think he's replaceable. Bowen should do just fine.

The D shouldn't miss a beat. If the offense is better at all, we'd have won 2-3 more last year. I'm not projecting an SEC or NC.....heck, I'm not even projecting the Playoffs.....but barring something crazy, I think this team finds a way to win 8 or 9 during the regular season. Especially if they get to the texas game undefeated.

I think the defense as a whole will be fine, but I don't think we have elite pass rushers, and I do worry a bit about our busts -- we still give up way too many big plays. It feels like on every pod, Gabe and Teddy talk about how we played well for all but a few snaps -- but those few bad snaps tend to be massive chunk plays rather than 15-or-20-yarders.

I agree the game plan will be better, but Brent lets the position coaches determine playing time, and Murray and BB have not made great choices the last couple years. My biggest concern is Brent himself. We don't have a talent advantage over many teams in the SEC, so games will come down to in-game decision making, discipline, and execution. We have been awful in those areas, and you can't pin that on a coordinator -- those are at the feet of the head man. When it comes to timeout usage, clock management, deciding whether to kick or go for it on fourth down -- he has been as bad as Moser is at drawing up inbounds plays or coming up with a plan to take the ball out of Oweh's hands. And now that he is back to being the official DC and will have to focus on calling every defensive play, he will have even less time to devote to improving in those areas.

Take football elsewhere. Jeez

Since it's offseason, I don't think Boulder minds if there is a thread dedicated to football, but I agree that it doesn't belong in the "Transfer Portal 2025" thread which is dedicated to OU hoops. For those who wish to discuss football, feel free to create a separate thread. Whoever wishes to talk football, they can do it in that one thread.
