Transfer Portal 2025

At this point, I think it’s a fair criticism that we never get early commits from the portal.

Some momentum and buzz would help the process, and it might even get fans excited. Sort of important.

Literally EVERY national pundit is saying $$ is driving everything, yet some of you all don’t want to believe it!! 😂😂😂
Hey evan. U seemed to have some reading comprehension issues. What does my last sentence say?? It says nothing to how u responded.

Easily would want, but no way we get a shot.
This is why I am not super worried about early commits. We still have a month of transfer portal. Plenty of quality guys will enter the portal that haven't even hit the radar yet. This guy would be a perfect replacement for Fears. We've got three point guards in the NBA (Young, Reaves, and now Fears) -- I would hard sell that to Xavian.

Recruits aren’t going to buy that pitch when two of them didn’t play for Moser. It would be like Brent trying to take credit for OU having four NFL quarterbacks. Moser gets credit for Fears, not two guys who played here while he was at Loyola.

And if you don’t get guys for another month, good luck picking off the scrap heap.

we can all agree money helps get Better players ..

but can we all not also agree that better coaching would have won OU more games last season?? ?

and that roster construction was not perfect even with the money OU had to spend ..
This is really a hindsight answer though. KU was ranked the preseason #1 with what they had coming back and what they were bringing in from the portal and yet won 22 games and were bounced in the first round like OU.

Missouri two years ago went 0fer in the SEC. I'm guessing they thought their roster was a little better than 0 wins that year.

My point is NO roster is going to be perfect and for the most part no team gets all their 1A guys on the list.

Me and some others go back to saying that the roster that was actually constructed in the off-season last year didn't get to play one game together, so we really don't know how good or bad it actually was. Obviously, Center was a glaring hole regardless if those two played or not.

Also, Moser gets crapped on for the losses, but did OU not win some games due to his coaching/game planning as well or were those all on the players? Getting trounced by MU and then a week or two later crushing them at home has to at least be a little credit to Moser?

UCONN who most agree has a really good X's and O's coach, realized they didn't have good enough players after having a very humbling season and went and paid for what most think was one of if not the top guard on the board.

St. John's just went and paid for 2-3 guys that are top 25 type players, and they have one of if not the top college coach in the game at the moment.

Yes, we can agree that coaching matter (at least you and I can) but even the top college coaches out there are begging for money when they sign to coach at a school because they know while you can win some games out coaching opponents, you have a hell of a lot better chance of winning consistently with lots of bullets in the gun instead of 1 or 2.

I think if you look back on this site to last years portal thread it is not hindsight .. lots had questions about who he brought in

add that to him getting very very lucky with Fears in august (yes he put in some work there but it was still mostly luck that Fears reclassed) and you can see why some are very skeptical

I think we can somewhat agree on the roster construction. I think they were counting on Jadon Jones and Jeff Nwankwo to be bigger factors where you didn't have defensively challenged Brycen Goodine out on the floor in key moments where you needed stops. Does that influence the coaching part too, it could, but too big an uncertainty.

I know you mean momentum and buzz by adding a couple of commits, but it seemed like the TY announcement and donation created some buzz and (hopefully) will lead to some momentum.

Might not be the right spot, but did anyone listen to the sooner scoop pod? drove 2 hours to the baseball game lastnight so had some time to kill. George said Brock Morris is basically acting like the GM and it sound like he could be elevated to that position, he made it seem like hiring within was the likely option.
