Transfer Portal 2025

Based on all the talk by the PM excuse-makers, Jones and JN better be the second-coming of Jordan and Scottie next year. Two guys who have never played power conference ball and who weren't rated in anyone's top 100 (maybe not 200), and yet all we hear is how much of a difference they would have made.

you wouldn't have needed jordan/pippen this season to win a few more games.
you rant non-stop about how bad our roster was this year....yet we were a few pts away from 3-5 more wins.
it's not inconceivable that jones/nwanko would have given pm additional options in certain situations that might have made a positive difference.
i'm a pm excuse-maker wrt the roster. he tried to get players that probably would have helped this team but failed for reasons i'm not 100% clear.
i think there were certainly games lost because of coaching inadequacies.
but we've got pm another season so here's hoping he can put together a good roster that stays healthy.

Boulder, where I disagree that your statement can be viewed as a fact not subject to dispute is we had 3 injuries that kept 3 of our top 6-7 players out of action down the stretch and 2 players out of action for the entire year. The team Moser put together that practiced between August and November is not the team that played. I don't know anything about Jeff Nwonkwo, but Jones would have started. Some think that is true for Jeff, but I have never seen him play. So, it might be (we will never know) that the team he put together and anticipated playing the year with would have been better.

I have complaints, just like many of you, related to PM. But, he isn't nearly as bad a coach as some of you suggest. Considering everything, he has had 3 winning teams in 4 years and made the tournament once and was the last team out twice, while playing in the toughest college basketball league all 4 years. So, it is undisputable that his tenure has been anything but a disaster. It has not met expectations of some, but in the grand scheme of things has been pretty good.

Some coaches I like, and some I don't. But, I disagree with anyone that believes it is fair to judge the merits of a coach without taking into consideration what he is given to work with (re players, funding, gym, fan support, injuries etc.). It might be fair for someone to have an opinion or state Porter hasn't done as well as he "could" have or "should" have. OK -- reasonable people can disagree. But, to say he has been a poor or bad coach is just not fair - IMO.

I have watched the fan base of this university turn on Tubbs, due to a downturn at the end of his tenure, turn on Capel (same reason), turn on Lon Kruger (same reason) and for many, turn on Moser not withstanding far more consistent success over a 4 year tenure. None of these guys were bad coaches. Lon retired, and OU just decided they could do better with the others. I have no problem with the university's judgment in these instances. Sampson left of his own accord for a better job but I was on this board while he was here, and there was just as much hate spewed at him as a coach as I see (and have once or twice participated in) against Moser.

There is absolute no basis to fire Moser for cause. If at some point, the university wants to move on because they think they can do better, that is there prerogative. I'm OK with OU whatever they choose, it is the responsibility of Joe to make these decisions and he has more information than any of us related to the resources Porter is given and what expectations can fairly be placed on him.
Good thoughts but I disagree that’s he’s a very good coach. I look at his overall record… barely over .500. He’s made the tourney THREE times in 20+ years.

Also look at some of the game time decisions..

We all have our opinions.

I don’t want the “norm” for OU BBALL to be tourney 1/4 years. At one time OU had the longest postseason streak in D1… over all the blue bloods.

It can be done.

Given his noncon scheduling, it is almost impossible not to have a "winning record." He schedules about 8 guaranteed wins each year, which means he needs to go 8-15 in the other 23 regular season games to finish above .500. If you have tp point to an overall winning record to support a power conference coach, it shows how little of substance he has accomplished. When you coach at a power conference school and take liberal advantage of spending money on buy games to bring horrible teams to Norman for a paycheck, sorry, you don't get credit for that in my eyes. Eliminate the weak sisters of the poor, and he is a below .500 coach for OU -- miles below .500 in conference.

We'll see on Collins. I don't think Lusk is right (about not talking to Vandy since Monday)

Latest on Booker.

It's amazing how the "insiders" don't seem to know anything about OU basketball....one guy throws stuff out that never seems to be right and the other guy throws stuff out that seems days behind the information that's out there to the general public....maybe it's just me that sees it that way.
