I may have to try and listen, I would prefer an outside hire with some analytics - business dev experience...but something is better than nothing I guess?Might not be the right spot, but did anyone listen to the sooner scoop pod? drove 2 hours to the baseball game lastnight so had some time to kill. George said Brock Morris is basically acting like the GM and it sound like he could be elevated to that position, he made it seem like hiring within was the likely option.
roughly starts at the 1:10 ish mark, maybe a little later.I may have to try and listen, I would prefer an outside hire with some analytics - business dev experience...but something is better than nothing I guess?
Probably a duh statement but an impact big (6'9-6'10 not 6'6-6'7) that wants to rebound and an impact PG are what OU needs the most at the moment IMO.I don't have quite the Frankie Collins hate as some on here, but I prefer Campbell over Collins. What do some of you think about Javontae Campbell? Personally, I'd love to see us get TAE Davis and JavonTAE Campbell wrapped up soon. That would leave you with 3 open spots for other portal additions. With that, I'd like to see another big and two very solid guards. If we could do that we would have something to work with at least.
I agree 100% with this take. The only team in the FF with bigs that are less than 6'8 is Houston. All other teams have big dudes above 6'10 that start.Probably a duh statement but an impact big (6'9-6'10 not 6'6-6'7) that wants to rebound and an impact PG are what OU needs the most at the moment IMO.
From what I saw at the games, I don't want to lose Brock Morris on the bench. Especially with losing Gates, too. Morris coached and engaged with the team as much as anyone.Might not be the right spot, but did anyone listen to the sooner scoop pod? drove 2 hours to the baseball game lastnight so had some time to kill. George said Brock Morris is basically acting like the GM and it sound like he could be elevated to that position, he made it seem like hiring within was the likely option.
I think we can somewhat agree on the roster construction. I think they were counting on Jadon Jones and Jeff Nwankwo to be bigger factors where you didn't have defensively challenged Brycen Goodine out on the floor in key moments where you needed stops. Does that influence the coaching part too, it could, but too big an uncertainty.
There is just no way to know how that plays out. Most of us expected bigger things from the guards that did play. We also might not have been in a position to land Fears, and certainly not Taylor, if Nwankwo doesn't get hurt. Maybe Dayton doesn't play as much. Maybe those guys are better players, but the chemistry isn't right. Neither of those guys are studs (most likely), so I think any improvement would have been minimal. But again, not sure we get Fears either.
He’s a terrible coach and I base that on his body of work as well as seeing what he does in games. I don’t care what team we had last fall vs. what we had in the spring.Boulder, where I disagree that your statement can be viewed as a fact not subject to dispute is we had 3 injuries that kept 3 of our top 6-7 players out of action down the stretch and 2 players out of action for the entire year. The team Moser put together that practiced between August and November is not the team that played. I don't know anything about Jeff Nwonkwo, but Jones would have started. Some think that is true for Jeff, but I have never seen him play. So, it might be (we will never know) that the team he put together and anticipated playing the year with would have been better.
I have complaints, just like many of you, related to PM. But, he isn't nearly as bad a coach as some of you suggest. Considering everything, he has had 3 winning teams in 4 years and made the tournament once and was the last team out twice, while playing in the toughest college basketball league all 4 years. So, it is undisputable that his tenure has been anything but a disaster. It has not met expectations of some, but in the grand scheme of things has been pretty good.
Some coaches I like, and some I don't. But, I disagree with anyone that believes it is fair to judge the merits of a coach without taking into consideration what he is given to work with (re players, funding, gym, fan support, injuries etc.). It might be fair for someone to have an opinion or state Porter hasn't done as well as he "could" have or "should" have. OK -- reasonable people can disagree. But, to say he has been a poor or bad coach is just not fair - IMO.
I have watched the fan base of this university turn on Tubbs, due to a downturn at the end of his tenure, turn on Capel (same reason), turn on Lon Kruger (same reason) and for many, turn on Moser not withstanding far more consistent success over a 4 year tenure. None of these guys were bad coaches. Lon retired, and OU just decided they could do better with the others. I have no problem with the university's judgment in these instances. Sampson left of his own accord for a better job but I was on this board while he was here, and there was just as much hate spewed at him as a coach as I see (and have once or twice participated in) against Moser.
There is absolute no basis to fire Moser for cause. If at some point, the university wants to move on because they think they can do better, that is there prerogative. I'm OK with OU whatever they choose, it is the responsibility of Joe to make these decisions and he has more information than any of us related to the resources Porter is given and what expectations can fairly be placed on him.
Not saying either of those guys would have had anywhere close to the impact he had but it was funny to listen to an interview that Rick Barnes gave last year near the end of the season about Dalton Knecht. He was asked if they expected the type of impact he had provided, and Barnes response was basically no one expected that sort of impact but more of a guy that could score a little and would provide scoring now and then possibly off the bench.Neither of those guys are studs (most likely), so I think any improvement would have been minimal.
Based on all the talk by the PM excuse-makers, Jones and JN better be the second-coming of Jordan and Scottie next year. Two guys who have never played power conference ball and who weren't rated in anyone's top 100 (maybe not 200), and yet all we hear is how much of a difference they would have made. He’s a terrible coach and I base that on his body of work as well as seeing what he does in games. I don’t care what team we had last fall vs. what we had in the spring.
Unfortunately, JJ White committed to Baylor. I'm not sure who involved we were with him, but I think he would have been a nice get.Wonder if Collins leaning Vandy is an indication of how we feel about Mack/Lindsey/White.

My personal current favorites for 3 guard spots, until we see if we get involved with others, are Lindsey/Nait George/Campbell.
