Transfer Portal 2027

Rooths will start. Give the guy more minutes & his production will be solid. I like him, maybe you need another 4/5 sure or a better/legit 5 to pair with him. I said it earlier, but spend lots of $ on a few more guards & roll with unknown bigs. Take a risk!

Relying on unproven/inadequate bigs has been our biggest issue for Moser's entire career, and that's the approach you want to take?

With Burton off and Rooths in, my assumption would be a guard, since we got a F.

Mingo or TO, but I lean Mingo.

Eh.
Not to put more work on you, but I'd be curious if you are able to isolate trends of "jumps" players make from Freshman to Sophomore year or Soph-JR and so on. Would be interesting to see how those stats project onto your average sophomore for Mingo. I know Penn St isn't very good, but 13.7/3.5/4.3 with one of the higher PORPAGs on the list seems promising from a freshman guard

The trend this offseason does seem to be athleticism and defense. So we may be seeing the overcorrection we were discussing a few weeks ago. Not a lot of shooters that we are making the lists for. Time will tell.

I mean what big is out there that we can land? Even for $3 million. You are paying for an average big at this point guessing. There are some pretty legit guards/wings though still. Go land 2-3 more players and have some depth. PF/C just there to defend & rebound hopefully. I don't love it, but why not go all in on it.

I don’t want to start a mess of a rumor and I have zero inside information on this, so please don’t run too far with it, but…

Is there any chance we would’ve gotten involved with Oswin again post-Creighton commitment?

McKay followed his agency, Roc Nation Sports, yesterday.

They’re also the agency for Brandon Garrison, JJ Mandaquit, Taylor Bol Bowen, Amari Evans, & Brett Freeman. Could be literally nothing and just a GM following the agency after negotiations. Just wanted to pass it along because I saw it.

He also followed Excel Sports Management today, which is Kayden Mingo’s agency.

Of course that's the trend. That is the overreaction that PoMo does every year. And guess what Rooths and Mingo don't do well? Shoot it.

It's a back and forth, year over year issue that affects PoMo every season. Defense will be better next year but we'll take a giant step back in terms of shooting.

Make. It. Stop.

Please.

If we were serious, we'd move Reid to the 4, have spent on a decent 5, and spent even more on guards.

I'm more of a fan of having 3 good guard types on the floor, then I am of being "NBA big" at the 3, 4, and 5 spots.

One guy in… I think overreaction isn’t there yet.

You have X, Dayton, Reid (assuming)

6’10 defensive minded 4/5 man is a bad thing?

We’ll Add some scoring. Give it time.

Rooths is great at two things: rebounding and defending multiple positions. He fits Moser’s switching style and shoots 63% from 2. Won’t score like Davis but has potential to be a mismatch.
Watching Rooths’ videos, he brings size and athleticism…which is always nice at the post. I’m not too concerned with his numbers. If he had played more, his numbers would be much better, but L’ville played a lot of 4 guard lineups with them having some bigger guards. If Rooths had transferred to a mi-major last season where he was as playing 25+ mins, his numbers would likely be around 14/8, and some would think we’re getting a better player. If he is the starter at the 4, I could see him avging 10-12 pts and 6+ rebs, which is fine. I expect both Brown and Reid to increase their production.

The trend now seems to be swinging back to getting bigger. Michigan, Arizona, Florida, etc. But for a program like OU, it’s unrealistic to think we would be able to get three or four high quality big men, at least not while Moser is here for another year. But we do need to show a willingness to pay for at least one good five. Preferably one who can avoid foul trouble and who is in good enough shape to play close to 30 mins per game.

I agree that I think it will be hard for OU to follow that roster shaping idea. Just so few guys that big and skilled that they are going to the elites.

Maybe that's the market inefficiency we need to exploit. Go get more guards.

It's about balance. Getting guys like Rooths that can balance the limitations of our other players (i.e., rebounding and guard mobile bigs / big guards) is an important part of this process. Getting a defensive minded post and defensive minded guard (both of whom score at a high % in the lane) would be a great way to shape the roster, assuming we can surround them with shooters and strong ball-handlers. Just need to see who else we get.
