Our Athletic Director exceeded just about everyone's expectations, whether those expectations were fair or not. I can only speak for myself, but Lon Kruger had already turned down several other jobs the year before and seemed content to finish things up at UNLV. In short, if LK were a candidate "known" to the fan-base [at least posters on here], I think he and Buzz would have been neck-and-neck as far as a #1 choice is concerned.

Knowing this board, the LK supporters would have been all over his experience and obvious skill at coaching the game of basketball, the Buzz supporters would have been all over his ties to Texas and ability to recruit Texas. THEN after Marquette got destroyed, everyone would have made LK their #1 choice. And yes, I am excited about the future, we got a coach whose resume matches or exceeds any other coach in the conference, if he brings Terry Evans into the fold, the circle is complete as far as I am concerned.

We'll see I guess.
 
By the way, I'm not so sure that Buzz "turned us down", as you say. I think it may have been more that we declined to spend the money it would have taken to hire him. I am pretty confident that in the long run that is going to look like a very wise decision.

Yep, I missed that part where Buzz Williams was officially offered the OU job and said "No" to stay at Marquette. In fact, I missed the part where any coach "turned OU down". For as frustrating as it is being a fan, Castiglione and OU know how to handle their business...quietly.
 
What accomplishments does Kruger have? 1 final four and 1 elite eight almost 20 years ago? Outstanding!

The only problem some OU fans had is the reverse of the problem most Missouri and Okie State fans have ...

We underestimated the strength of our program while Missouri and Okie State fans consistently overestimate the strength of their programs.

We wrongly assumed that we needed to jump on a risky hire like BCG because he was the best we could get, we didn't, Texas Tech did.

We wrongly assumed that desperately overpaying for Buzz Williams was necessary or we would end up with Frank Haith, we didn't Missouri did.

So when the smoke clears we have a proven stud making the going rate for somebody of his credentials.

You have Hillbilly Ford and his 1 NCAA win at $1.8 million year. You have a rape trial going on and your guaranteed NCAA tournament birth crashed and burned into a 6-10 Big XII conference record and season ending loss to OU.

No troll. Long time reader. First time poster. Honest question. Since 94 he has 1 sweet sixteen appearance I believe. Good coach? No doubt. 2nd best in the league? Probably not.

Who guaranteed a NCAA tournament berth? Bigadb?! I agree that a 6-10 record was disappointing and not worth $1.8 million, but if I can play the bocabull game and say we "almost" were something, we were "almost 8-8", and yes, that loss to OU was the worst lost of the season.

If Ford misses another tournament, he'll probably be gone. Because that's not worth 1.8 million, just like Capel was fired for missing the postseason for two straight years wasn't worth $1.5 million, and YOU wanted to keep him.

As for Kruger he is, by all accounts a very good coach, but I saw a post of yours (and I know you were probably bocatrolling) where you said he was on the same level as Pitino and Calipari. As an outsider looking at Kruger's career record, it seems Kruger has a definite limit on what he can accomplish, he has never out right won a regular season title,and there seems to be a trend of regression the longer he is at a place. Which indicates to me that he's not a good recruiter, or he gets complacent, or bored the longer he stays at a place.

I think he's a really solid hire and I fully understand the excitement and optimism of hiring a new coach, so good for you guys!

His posts remind me of when message boards first started in like 1996. It's all name-calling and tired, recycled trash talk.

There are lots of posters on this site who have lots to say in a legitimate discussion. LOL at anyone who thinks boca is one of those people.

I think boca is dead on in this thread...not directing this comment towards him, but even a broken watch is right twice a day. I thought it was funny anyway, and as far as how good of a job CLK will or will not do, it'll be interesting to see, but to have at least 90% of the board behind a guy is nice. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts :)

You're correct buttermilk. OSU needs to improve on thier 20 win season and thier streak of 23 straight winning seasons.
