Travis "Trailer Park" Ford on the clock(thanks Boca)

No osu fan is afraid, as much as you guys seem to think so. The players are hardly in place for him to finish top half of the league next year. The conference gets even tougher next year which will make it hard for a quick turnaround. Kruger has his hands full to say the least.

Trailer park? thats the best you got?

Did you even read this thread?

OU split with oSu with the same crappy players this season. As an OU fan I'm loving this reaction.

My name makes me a troll? I haven't made any rude remarks or demonstrated any troll-ish behavior. I just wanted someone to tell me what makes Kruger the 2nd best coach in the big 12. I was just curious.

Okay, what coach in the conference has been to more FF, EE or SS than CLK? Shouldn't be too hard.

I would be happy with him coaching my team as well. I just wouldn't crown him the 2nd best this or that before he has even coached a game at my school. Call me crazy.

How is 1 sweet 16 since 94 on par with a final 4, 2 elite 8's and 2 sweet 16's since 2002? Nevermind.

Look OU's last coach worked hard to put us deep in one.

Many things can create one, it can be of any shape or size, it is created for various reasons, and it can shrink or grow with time.

What is it?

If you can answer this riddle you understand why we are excited about this hire. That is what he does once a program is buried.

No I am not drinking tonight.

First post:

What accomplishments does Kruger have? 1 final four and 1 elite eight almost 20 years ago? Outstanding!

Yeah, not trolling at all! That's just someone asking an honest question in the spirit of friendly curiosity. Go away

What reaction did you expect to get from your name? The argument is simply that Barnes has had teams with a ton of talent that underachieved. You could argue that Kruger has done more with less. I really don't have that strong of a feeling either way. Barnes has had years where his team has overachieved and others where they definitely underachieved. Kruger has a track record of rebuilding programs that were in disrepair. Like I said, I could see listing both Barnes and Self ahead of Kruger, but putting Turgeon ahead of Kruger is a stretch.

Yup that's the best I got today. I guess I should come up with something that speaks of his extensive NIT bids.

Even with how crappy he has been according to you? This is starting to get circular. Okay, say Barnes is better, OU has the "third" best coach in the conference now...would you have said the same thing last week?

the whole "which coach is better" thing is 10yo anyway.

Or you could say something about the way Ford builds programs. He built or rebuilt every program that he has been in charge of.

Nothing against Lon Kruger. He's a good coach and a quality guy. Which is exactly what OU needs. But I don't think anyone should be trembling with fear that he's the guy that was brought in.

Have any OU posters been saying that? I can't think of any.

What has Ford done with his own players that he recruited? Oh, and Nash won't count because his brother went to oSu. And I don't think that anyone said that people should be "trembling in fear", what they have been saying is that OU just got a coach with as good a resume as anybody in the conference except for Self and maybe Barnes. That someone going by "tugfest" is on here ripping the guy only tells me that we made a good hire.

Well other than Page (who's entire career has been under Ford) Next season will be Ford's first with an entire team that he recruited. I think that it will be one of the better transition teams that OSU has had in awhile and the best perimeter defensive team in Ford's time. If Nash and Cobbins are as good as advertised then OSU will go back to the Smaller lineup and Page will be back to the # 3 scoring option...

I think next year will be more telling of Ford's direction of the program than any. Ford's teams have regressed with the more players he's brought in. Not saying that trend will definitively continue, but next year is very important for him IMO.

Agree that next year will be big, but also let's not forget that Ford lost his starting point guard for the season just as it was getting underway.

That's akin to a college football team losing its starting QB in week 1.

With a healthy Fred Gulley in the lineup all year, this year's OSU team probably makes the Tournament.

I see what you are saying, but I'd argue losing a QB is typically quite a bit more detrimental to an offense than a PG. Of course there are exceptions though.

Regardless, injuries are a part of the game. To me, I save excuses for special players that are done for the season, but there's a difference between a special player, and a serviceable player like Gulley. I say that because I don't know if Gulley was that much of an impact to say Ok. State probably makes the tournament. There were issues besides losing Gulley that lead to Ok. State's subpar Big 12 season.

Jeff, Have you watched Gulley play? I doubt he would have that much of a difference.

I think OSU makes the tournament if Williams doesn't get caught with his fingers in the cookie jar.

Well, we're not talking about a huge swing here.

I'm not saying that with a healthy Gulley OSU goes 12-4 in the conference and is an absolute lock.

But I think his steady play and defense at the point guard position would have been worth at least two more Big 12 wins when bad point-guard play was OSU's biggest problem for the first 3/4 of the season.

Yes. I watched him perform as the starting point guard of an NCAA tournament team as a freshman.

He's not flashy, but he's a solid point guard who can run the offense, doesn't turn it over and plays excellent defense.

Our point guard play was pretty atrocious until Gulley emerged in the last 4-5 games, and even he was pretty up and down.

I really think Gulley's steady play would have led to at least two more Big 12 wins.
