We need Kornet and Durrett to step up, especially Durrett. Portia was dazed and confused against TT and it was almost uncomfortable to watch. She needs to just get in there and bang. I have a feeling that she will come around sooner than later and so will Nicole but much later in the season.

Portia has a better shot at getting the minutes to improve. Nicole is not likely to get many minutes with Ellenberg and Hook playing 37-40 minutes.

Sherri keeps a very short leash on the newbies. Almost 180 degrees from what Kruger does. We are not likely to have many blowouts as most of the Big 12 teams can beat you on any occasion. Sherri does not play the inexperienced players much in the tough games.

From all I've heard in past conversations, Coach's luncheons, etc. pre-conference is player development time. Once conference starts, it's all about the team and about winning games. It's not that Portia and Nicole K are bad, it's just that they are not as effective as the people they are replacing. They'll be used as much as needed to keep the others reasonably fresh and out of foul trouble. In the meantime, I bet they are being worked really hard in practice to prepare them for the inevitable time they will be needed.

Thanks Tango!

I think Portia and Nicole K will provide more as the season goes on.

Portia in my view cost us at least 6 points in the time she was in. I agree she looked confused. She also seemed slow, but I suspect that is because she was not comfortable in what she was supposed to do.

She is going to have to improve because our depth is so lacking. It was a great coaching job on Sherry's part to get us a victory with both McFarland and Griffin in foul trouble.

Sherri was on James Hale's radio show during the noon hour today (Monday). She talked about PD and NK being at that point where they know enough to recognize when they make mistakes. She said new players usually play their worst just before the light goes on because they're thinking too much. She thinks these two are about to come around in the near future to being instinctive in what they do and making a real contribution.

I have to agree about Kornet for sure. She doesn't play like a deer in head lights, she plays too fast at times. Its just about ready to click for her, and she is going to be really good when it does. I just like her enthusiasm and want to please. Just a little more time and she will get some serious minutes. Portia is just not there yet, I hope she comes around soon though.

Well, this season sure as hell isn't getting any easier in the coming days, so I hope Sherri isn't just blowing smoke because we need those girls hitting on all eight cylinders because we aren't going to always be lucky with our two big each with four fouls for the last 8-10 minutes of a game.
