Tyler Neal or Dave Sieger?

And it's funny how players get labels. Sieger is often referred to as a role player, but that wasn't reflective of his talent level IMO, but moreso b/c of all the other talent he played around. Was the 5th best player on the Dream Team a role player? :)

Stick Sieger on some of those Kelvin teams, and he is either the best, or 2nd best on nearly all of them.

Neal may be a bit more athletic but he's probably not near as good a player at this point. But we'll see if Neal can get better. Seems like every survey for the best dunker on the team, everyone answers Tyler Neal.

Dave saw little pt as a frosh, redshirted his 2nd year. Played as a soph his 3rd yr. as a backup 2 guard, just trying not to screw up, afraid to shoot. Tyler is way ahead of that and I like the idea of having a tweener coming off the bench even if he earns major minutes in future years. Too bad he burned his redshirt last year because his best is yet to come.

He was 6'6". I am pretty sure he dunk. Most guys that tall have big feet and long arms. You don't have to jump very high when you can reach above 8 feet.

Of course I was exaggerating, but you could barely slide a piece of paper under his feet when he jumped!LOL

Dave DID produce though.

Hmmm.....

Sieger averaged 5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2 steals per game his senior year. Everybody remembers him as a "shooter", but the guy was pretty solid all around. He was just overshadowed by bigger names. Don't sell him short though.
Exactly whatI was thinking.

I have heard Billy Tubbs say he thought he made a mistake on Dave Seiger after his freshman year. Tubbs went on to say what a good player Seiger became.

I have high hopes for Neal. I think he can be a really good player at OU. People tend to forget that four year guys like Rayn Minor, Dave Seiger, Stacey King, Tim Heskett, etc. were typically not big producers there first couple of years but ultimately had pretty big impacts on the program. The freshman that produces in a major way is rare but is quite common for a guy to play a limited role his first year or two and then become a really solid college basketball palyer.

Depending on what you mean by this, I might agree.

I, personally, don't think his ceiling is all that high. He will always struggle with certain aspects of the game. That said, I think he can be a VERY good role player, especially if he can come off the bench to play that role. There is always room on basketball teams for guys that can shoot it. And that is a skill that Tyler appears to have. How consistent will he be? None of us knows just yet.

He has shown more than just a shot. I have seen him take it to the whole hard on more than one occassion. I really think he can be an excellent bench player and probably a good starter his senior year. His biggest problem is that Cam Clark is in his class and pretty much plays the same position.

Playing behind Mookie, King, Grant, Grace, etc....no harm in that. He was a very solid player that came up big many times when we needed him. He was a guy you knew you could put in there and he wouldn't hurt you. If Neal can shoot as well as he did I'll be happy with that.
