James Hale has been on a role with basketball reports and interviews lately. There is a nice interview with Matt Korchek's juco coach on the Insider board that talks about his visit to OU. In short, the kiid loved it! And, based on what his coach said, I won't be surprised if he commits to OU soon.

If Korchek redshirts, as it appears he plans to do, is it safe to assume that Arent will be back, or will Kruger go after another big in the late signing period who wants to play this fall?

I can't see us going into the start of the season with Neal as our only back up at the post. Tyler and Cam are wings. They are not blessed with the size and strength to bang inside if Fitz, Osby or M'Baye are in foul trouble.

I see this as a sign that Arent is not going anywhere. What do you read into the plans to redshirt Korcheck if he comes to OU?

Honestly? I'm still not sure. He just doesn't seem like the kind of kid we need to be recruiting with redshirt promises. BUT.....LK gets the benefit of the doubt until he shows he doesn't deserve it. So if LK thinks that helps the team, I'm behind it. Definitely curious to see what our roster is going to look like.

I know Arent was not very good this year, but lets see if in his 2nd year the game slows down for him and he can make a serviceable back up big. Seems to happen a lot with Juco players IMO.

Yeah, me too. I agree that we have to trust Coach Kruger on this one. I'm sure he has a plan. He doesn't appear to be the type that would go into a season without one. Last year doesn't count. He had very little time to prepare and recruit, and only two scholarships to work with. This year and next he's on his own time.

I'm with you on Arent. He didn't have a good first year by any stretch of the imagination. But the kid works hard, and he definitely has the size to contribute if he improves in this summer. We can only hope that he follows the usual trend with JUCOs and has a much better senior season.

Could it be that Kruger is committed to Cam at the wing (3), so that only leaves 2 post positions? With Fitz, Osby, and M'Baye they would basically split 3 positions between 4 players. I don't ever see Arent being a factor on a good team. Just like Blair isn't a PG on an NCAA contender.

Kruger may have told Cam that if he wants to play, he's going to have to move down to the post. He's really too inconsistent out on the wing. He's bigger than Crocker was when he had to play the 4.

I think it's more likely to play a PG (Grooms), 2 wings (Pledger and one of the freshmen or Cam), and 2 post players, so I don't think it's important for Korchek to play next season. I would rather see him redshirt than play the minutes that CJ Washington played this year as the 3rd post player. Korchek would be the 4th option so he wouldn't get that many minutes.

Most teams go with a 7-8 man rotation by the end of the year, and I just don't see a 4th big man in that mix. JMHO.
