Does anyone know the process on selecting the roster for the USA Basketball team? I'm looking at the 158 player roster and I only see one player from Oklahoma with good stats on this list. I even see a middle school player on the list and I know their are NO middle school stats. I'm sure their must be an application process but I wonder what's the criteria for who's in and who's out??? I'm confused:facepalm

I believe we went over this In a previous threads. USA basketball invited the top 30 kids in the United States in 2017 and 2018. If you are not invited you can fill out an application to attend but have to pay for your own travel expenses, etc. Basically you only have about a 10% chance of making it if you are not invited, they already kind of have an idea who on the 12 man team, unless your just sensational and turn their heads right away,

Good experience, but waste of money if you are not invited IMO.

That's interesting. Basically it's all political. WOW!!!

The selection of the thirty may be political. Yet, probably the least political aspect of all of the prospect rankings from any magazine, organization, or whatever is the selection, itself. They actually go through tryouts. The twelve who make it are those who survive the tryouts.

I find this particularly interesting since one of the people who did survive the tryouts that included the "top prospects" was Dungee. Yet, the services have her constantly falling. I look at two things that contradict that: she actually survived the tryouts, and I saw her play in AAU. I think the services are just plain nuts.

What year as that, Syb? Last summer?

She was on the 2013 U-16 team along with Lauren Cox, Durr, Samuelson, and Nancy Mulkey. Mulkey was actually an alternate (#13) who made the team when one of the players got hurt. Then, she made the 2014 team as well. They were a year younger than some of the players on the team. But, they made it because they earned it----not because some scouting service selected them.
