Very interesting news on Michael Porter

I know a 5* SF and 4* PF that are available :ez-roll:

In all honesty, we need to find a SF who can shoot, since Odomes can't.

:facepalm

I feel like I have been wasting my time trying to convince everyone Odomes can shoot from the perimeter. He was close to a 50% shooter from three point range in high school. I even posted links to the articles to prove it.

Since the three point arc is the same distance in college, I see no reason why he can't do it again. It's a matter of taking those shots when they're open, and maybe putting in the practice time this summer to get his confidence back.

I agree odomes will be able to shoot the 3 but they are fixing his mechanics. Which not only takes time getting used to but also takes time to get your shooting confidence back. Also the 3pt line in college is further back than high school.

The line is one foot further back than high school. While it would increase the difficulty, it wouldn't turn a 50% three point shooter to what we've seen from Odomes on jump shooting. Hopefully the mechanical changes pay dividends in the next couple of years.

As others pointed out, the 3 point line is farther back in college than HS.

Also, the coaches changed his feet, which badly needed changed. If you look at the videos, his feet point outside towards the players bench, not towards the goal when he shoots. Last offseason, the coaches worked on changing that, which you can see more of. They are also trying to change how slow his shot is. When doing drills, like a quick catch and shoot, Odomes struggles because his shot is slow. They're working with him to speed that up. When all that happens, it will just take practice to perfect.

I'm with you Ada... I really think we will be surprised with Odomes' progress from year 2 to 3. I think he's just got a great game and will be very, very good for us next year. Love his vision, defensive ability and his ability to finish around the rim. With a PG like Trae next year, they will all have open looks. Love this teams potential!

He probably can become a very good 3 point shooter and perhaps confidence was 1 reason he wasn't this year. But it can't be the only one. Not only is the high school 3 point line slightly shorter, but it's doubtful that he was guarded by players as tall and athletic as those who guard him at OU. High school teams just don't have 6'6" athletic guys who can jump the way KU, Baylor, and West Virginia do. I'm sure he spent most of his time either being guarded by guys 3-4 inches shorter or big guys who couldn't jump, weren't quick, and didn't dare guard him at the 3 point line for fear he'd blow by them for a dunk. The point is, his college 3 pointers are contested and his HS 3 pointers I'm sure were not. I'm sure the book on him was, "make him beat you from outside." You just can't compare HS 3 point percentages and have them translate to college.

That's not to say he can't become a good shooter with practice and confidence. He probably can. But we shouldn't just assume it will happen simply because he made a lot of 3's in high school. It's apples and oranges.

1/2....5/10...even 20/40 for 4 yrs of HS ball isn't a lot of 3's.

I've got no clue how many he took (never look at the stats ADA posted..) I'm sure ADA made sure he had a decent amount of 3's to "count" him as a decent 3 pt shooter in HS.

My bad. I should have said "is virtually the same at a mere 12 inches further in college."

If it took a screw up on my part to make my point that Rashard can make shots from the perimeter, it was worth it. I still say he looked to score off of the dribble drive for two reasons: He was good at it, and he was following LK's instructions.

Keep in mind that Rashad went from a player who barely sniffed the floor one season to a starter a year later. If he works just as hard on his perimeter shooting between now and the start of next season, I won't have to remind anyone that he can do more than score off of the dribble.

The three point line is further back in college than in high school. Just wanted to make sure everyone on here knew that I knew that.

Seems to me I read that somewhere.

Now that we're on that topic, do you think it's possible for a good three point shooter in high school to adjust to the distance in college? Just thought I would ask. ;)

I was able to get to the Texas game early this year and watched OU warm up. Odomes can definitely hit 3's. He was hitting 70%+ in warmups. That was one of the things that was eye opening. I know that hitting in warmups doesn't necessarily translate into hitting in games but his shot is good enough to take 3's in games. No doubt IMHO.

Thanks for having my back, globecode!

I have said for sometime that Rashard can shoot from the perimeter. I kept hoping he would take what you saw in warm ups to the court during games, but he never did. If he brings the work ethic he used to go from a garbage time player last year to a starter this season and works on his shot this summer, I think he will prove both of us right this fall.

I hope he and CJ improve in the offseason. I have a lot of hope for next year's team.

Doug Gottlieb on 810 WHB is saying the Porters could be Oklahoma bound. He says it's not a certainty he's headed to Mizzou. This is as of information he learned last night.
