Video from first practice on SoonerSports.com

4 blocks for the season...maybe he played defense and opponents didn't get shots off against him. As for his 0.9 fouls per game, why does that have to correlate to non-physical play, maybe he plays smart defense and does not commit stupid fouls. None of us know how his coach told him to play, maybe he was told to stay outside and not crash the boards. If the other team had one of their big-guys guarding him and he stayed outside, it opened the lane for his teamates to rebound. Unless we were there watching the games we don't know.

How is it some posters are not on a D-I coaching staff with the knowledge they posses?

Let's try to focus on the positives and support these kids as they work hard.

Sawyer is making good points... He is pointing out that Thompsons past play indicates he will be soft, and used the numbers to back it up. Nothing wrong with that.

Thompson's past shows a predilection for finesse play. This doesn't mean that he can't change, but he hasn't shown the motor for defense and rebounding that a guy like CJ Washington did. Thompson has shown a skilled offensive repertoire. I think he and Washington could actually play well together.

We can only speculate about Thompson since I doubt anyone here has seen him play in JUCO. We will find out next month what kind of player he is. If he gives us 8 and 5 i would probably be happy as long as he can defend at an average Big 12 level.

Lad, you are right in that it is only speculation at this point. I for one could care less what a Mizzou fan thinks about a guy that he also has never seen play. And why he would waste so much time researching and posting about the stats of Nick Thompson is beyond me.

Bingo. This isn't fantasy basketball. Know a little more about the game than just someone's statline.

Also, alot to be said that Nick is beating out a guy who was the juco POY in Oklahoma and averaged 20 and 12.

I made comments about Thompson after watching practice clips and evaluating his production over the course of two seasons and its context in relation to his team as a whole, acknowledged that he was obviously a skilled player, and proposed my own personal hypothesis for his preferred style of play (which doesn't differ significantly from most others I've seen). I suspect his physical ability has and will continue to exceed his actual contributions on the floor. I don't think that's in any way an unreasonable assessment.
