I never played basketball at a high level, but seeing Smart go into the stands has made me wonder why you don't see more hitting and kicking on the court. Not saying its a bad thing that fighting dosn't occur that much. But with the competitivness of the players and the physical pounding some take (Griffen for example), I would have figured more would have occured.

Players like to play, not be suspended. If memory serves the penalties for fighting on the court can be pretty severe.

It may not occur at a very high clip or % of games, but there have been countless fights at every level.

Youtube alone has tons

Go spend a season on the summer circuit, no shortage of fights.

In high school, the NCAA and NBA...fighting is minimized because there are consequences for someone's actions. Look at your local men's league game, bunch of over weight clowns trying to be tough guys so there are skirmishes all the time. If someone gets booted, they just go to work the next day and play again next week.
