Was Capel being serious?

I personally believe he needs to release Ray Willis, but how does he do that. Jeff recruited him and this is going to be another recruiting miss. Somebody needs to get a clue and be able to identify players for this level of play and to quit throwing these kids away. I hope everyone including Joe C. will be patient and let Coach straighten out this mess. Boomer Sooner

Willis was a project from the get go, didnt understand the love for him as #1 his body was nowhere near ready for college bball.

Guess it really sounds that Capel is ready to throw the wood down, which is what this program needs. Just cant see TMG leaving however and think its also a motivational tool as was said. Capel knows this team right now has no leader, he needs someone, specifically TMG as the teams best player (considering WW is gone) and PG, to step up.

"IF" you have to chose who stays or goes, WWIII or TMG, who do you want? We'd all like to think that it was WWIII being kind of a punk, but he played hurt and never missed a practice that I am aware of. Coach Capel has said that'd he'd take him back and you never heard Capel really say anything bad about WWIII either.

I think Coach not saying anything bad about WW is moreso based on the idea that if he leaves (which I'm guessing he knows he likely will) there is no reason to bad mouth a kid who has been part of your program and whose draft stock is already hurting.

Willis had the same body type as AJ and seemed to have some athleticism, but he clearly just doesn't get "it". AJ always understood what he needed to do and where he needed to be. He may not have always been the most graceful and skilled looking guy, but he was a great defender with those long arms.

For an outsider's perspective, I'd rather have Warren. I feel like he was hurt or something not just at the end of the season but the entire season through. He was never as explosive as he was last season.

And maybe that injury combined with maybe some immaturity caused the problems he had this year. But he's shown glimpses of being a great ball player and apparently had zero problems his freshman year attitude, effort wise from what I remember.

So, maybe he just had a rough go at this season.

Mason-Griffin...just something weird about the guy. Incredible one on one offensive player, but an awful defender and I saw a bunch of times he'd dribble up the court after a made basket by the other team and put up a tough fall away jumper from the baseline without passing the ball once.

Even if he makes it, that can't be conducive to good team chemistry. He just looks like he's stuck in streetball mode during games. I saw a lot of posts about how the team looked better on offense when Warren went out. But I don't think its any coincidence that the team won more games with Warren in the lineup.

Even if he was struggling this season, Warren is/was such an incredible offensive talent you had to account for him every foot down the court. Can't say the same about Pledger (or whoever replaced him.)

Of course, ideally you'd want both back.

I agree with this.

If you don't practice hard you don't get your scholly renewed! Willis is gone imo.

I would be shocked if TMG is not back next year. WW I'm not sure about.

Big O will be back, he is one of the hardest working players in practices and biggest supporters during the games. Hardrick is up in the air too.

The rest will be back.

I thought TMG was the best player on this team, and played with heart.
What is up with the disrespect?
I hope he is back for 3 more years.

He played with heart on the offensive end..and were did that get us?

It's because he repeatedly put out no effort on defense and didn't show up on time to practice and sometimes not at all

Respect has to be earned and he has not earned it from many of us.

Does the Gallon TMZ story change that for you? I don't care who you are or what your affiliation is, any story like that has to scare the crap out of you.

And frankly, as big of a Capel fan as I am, if he knew about it and let Gallon play anyway, even if he was cleared, I want him gone. There's WAY too much "history" at this school to be messing around with this stuff.

thats plain idiotic

Why? Why would you allow a kid to be bigger than the program. There's PLENTY of history with the NCAA clearing a kid then changing their minds later. The arrogance of a kid thinking he can get away with accepting $3000.00 is immense. Again, if all of this is true, I want a clean house. Assuming Capel knew about it. And frankly, I don't think Joe C. is immune if he knew about it.

College basketball is really starting to turn me off. The corruption in the sport SUCKS.

Im fine with Tiny being gone. You stated that you wanted Capel gone, even if he was cleared to play. Thats stupid. What did you want Capel to do...tell Tiny, "you were cleared to play, but I'm not going to play you"?

You said "even if he was cleared" you still want him gone. To me, cleared means the investigation revealed there were no NCAA rules broken. If no rules were broken, what is wrong with him playing?

Ooops, SoonerBounce responded before I hit submit.

I guess I should be more "clear". Obviously, if he was in the clear, as in nothing was wrong with what he did, then we covered our bases and I'm okay with that. But, that being said, if there was ANY sort of exchange of money that WASN'T first cleared with Capel and the compliance office, then he should not have been let back on the court until we were absolutely 100% POSITIVE that there was no issue. If that didn't happen, then I hold Capel and Castiglione responsible, and it's time to clean house. That's my point. I actually don't think there's an argument here, I was just abrupt in my response and it was a bit of a knee-jerk response by me.
