Was Capel being serious?

I guess I should be more "clear". Obviously, if he was in the clear, as in nothing was wrong with what he did, then we covered our bases and I'm okay with that. But, that being said, if there was ANY sort of exchange of money that WASN'T first cleared with Capel and the compliance office, then he should not have been let back on the court until we were absolutely 100% POSITIVE that there was no issue. If that didn't happen, then I hold Capel and Castiglione responsible, and it's time to clean house. That's my point. I actually don't think there's an argument here, I was just abrupt in my response and it was a bit of a knee-jerk response by me.

I'm getting more confused, but will throw out the only reason Capel should "be gone":

If Capel knew about or had something to do with this alleged $3,000.00 payment to Tiny, tried to conceal such payment from either OU or the NCAA and intentionally played a player that he knew was ineligible.

If Capel knew there was something and played him before he had been completely cleared, he should go. That's the easiest way to say it.

If he had anything to do with the $3000.00 exchanging hands, then I'll personally walk him out the door yesterday.

I cant believe Capel could be that stupid, he knows if he had even the slightest connection with whatever happened he may as well kiss his coaching career good bye.

I highly doubt that is the case. This is a coach who refused the transfer of Eric Maynor from VCU to here because he didn't think "it was the right thing to do" since he recruited him to VCU.

There's no doubt Capel is having issues with the character of the kids he's recruiting, but I don't think he's going to get involved in anything like that. I do agree though that IF it comes out he was involved, he's gone.

I agree 100% with what you said, I was responding to a poster who was knee jerk "Fire Capel" just becuase a player may have done something stupid. I wouldn't risk my entire coaching career on making sure that a guy plays a little above average on a team that is sucking overall, not in a million years, espescially at age 35.

If the allegation is true, then an agent sent Tiny and his mom some money in hopes of getting a benefit in the future, that is something that NOBODY would know about except the parties involved and Tiny would actively seek to cover it up so he wouldn't be suspended or lose eligibility. I'd add, that IF this is true, the OU is wise just to let the NCAA handle it...in other instances the NCAA has just let the guy pay the money back and take a game or two suspension. There were issues with John Wall from day one, look where he is now.

My bad on the post quote. I knew that you were just stating a hypothetical there. Anyway, I think if the allegation is true we wipe our hands clean of Tiny and move on. Kinda like they did with Bomar, although his $$$ came through a job setup by the school and this situation apparently has nothing to do with an OU-connected booster. But I still think the precedent is set and Joe C. won't allow that baggage to continue to be in our program. We'll see.

The other thing with Bomar and Quinn is that they lied about it. Boster = School gets in trouble...if those players had lied to the NCAA as well, oh man would we be in a turd.

I'll be okay with whatever they do with Tiny, but am very leary of making a snap judgment based on what we know now.

I feel pretty strongly about what I said if this is true, but I also agree with you that arguing to the death this right now isn't worth it until we hear more.

I think they'll ask Tiny to leave if this is true. I don't necessarily agree with them doing that provided that the NCAA only suspends him, but its thier program.
