We may have another commitment on the way

I just want Tony to explain further why NickZepp can't make a funny joke

Now I know that when some have good information to post, they don't.

Well I certainly appreciate the information. To try to get back on topic, this would be a tremendous coup for us if true and if the guy can actually be a factor next year. The presence of a true "center" would raise our ceiling for sure.

I wasn't trying to ruin your joke, but, if I did, that is fine with me. It was based on a stereotype of Africa a region that most people in America know very little about. I think those stereotypes have led to a lot of misunderstandings about the region that either lead to most people neglecting the region or caring, but not having any idea what is happening. To me that joke is the equivalent of saying all Native Americans lived in teepees or all Americans ignorant and loud (a common European stereotype about the U.S.). So sorry if you think it was funny, but to me it was pretty close to a racist joke. Rather than calling you out on that I decided to use it as an opportunity to teach people something about the continent, but since you insist I think that joke is isn't funny and the humor comes purely from people's ignorance.

No really, I think if the OP is for real, then this Osmon Olol guy is probably who it is. He is a JUCO player from Somalia originally and then moved to Toronto and is a 6'9 post player.

+1 Really appreciate the tip and hope it comes true. That said, here's a photo and bio of Osman Olol. No idea about him at all though. Just posting it to post it.

I do not think that is the right kid.

Here's a story from this week about basketball in Somalia that mentions Olol.

Osman Olol, a cousin of Salah, is currently enrolled at Monroe Community College in the state of New York.

Being a six foot nine inches tall forward, Olol should be receiving already some looks by NCAA D1 colleges who are in the need of a post player as he displayed his raw talent this first year by averaging 6,2 points per game in only 16 minutes per game. If given a chance, he might resurface in a solid program with more playing time available for him.

Don't be discouraged Norm but unfortunately you are not the only one who is hesitant in posting info, that is good info.

Just to add I've heard the same thing Norm has and don't think he nor the post should be ridiculed for bringing info to the board. The more this happens the less posters want to bring good info to the board.

Looks like there are numerous kids that come from Somalia via a Canadian pipeline. I'm not sure if that is where this kid is coming from, could be England and likely Spain.
