Week 3 Practice Wrap Up

James and Freeman seem to be mature beyond their years. Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part, because this team so young our freshmen and sophomores will be counted on to play major roles this season.

Can't wait for the season to start! It's going to be fun.

I've only seen 2 practices but Doolittle looks like he can start at the 4.

Thanks for the info. Along with Woodard/James/Odomes/Lattin? Any surprises?

Nothing outrageous. This team will not be very deep at guard come conference time. Look for the staff to continue to find ways to move Doolittle and Buford over to the wing to cover foul issues and depth.

What does that mean... Is a guard leaving? Or do you just mean that McGusty is the only real backup wing?

Doolittle in HS would sometimes act a little immature when things weren't going right for him. Hopefully he is past that, but his athleticism is very high.

Pretty interesting Postman. Because Doolittle seems like he's grown into a legit 6-8 big and Buford doesn't appear to have the lateral quickness to cover other wings. Will be interesting to see how that evolves.

I think James and Odomes will get most of the wing minutes, with McGusty being the key reserve with his instant offense during conference play. I can also see times where Woodard slides to the wing.

Maybe there might might be a few times where Doolittle is out there, but that really limits our ball handling against pressure.

Doolittle is taking the ball to the rim from what I understand. More than he ever did in high school. I see him as a 4 but expect him to play a bunch of minutes.

Not disputing what you say about what Doolittle is doing right now, but you obviously didn't see the young man play too much in high school if you think he didn't take it to the rim. Probably 70% of his attempts came from within 4 ft. Kid got fouled a ton in high school. For three years that was ALL he did.

I have a question for those who have seen practice in person or have some inside knowledge. Who do you think our #1 and #2 options will be on the offensive end (i.e. scoring)?

From what I've read on the board, it appears Odomes will be our primary defensive stopper....with James closely behind him and Lattin guarding the paint.

Just trying to get an idea of what to expect on the offensive end. Thanks in advance.

We still won't have a "stopper." Due to Coach Kruger's philosophy of switching 1 through 4 defensively, we don't ever end up with your traditional defensive go to guy. Odomes would be if that were not the case. One of the reasons Doolittle is so valued right now is his ability to defend 1 through 4 in switches versus the other 4's. This group needs to be better defensively than last year.

The optimistic thing tha I heard from the Freeman and James interviews was the emphasis on Defense. Freeman said they actually require the defenders to stay low and move their feet. James said that there would be more steals and dunks.

sounds good I hope it happens.
