Duke fell out of the AP top 25 for the first time in 8 years this week

If we hold out against TCU and KSU, I hope UNC gets beat by Louisville or Notre Dame both this week.

Did you guys here about Roy Williams crying about the early ESPN green room draft predictions? I think what he's getting at is his players aren't being mentioned...and that's why he's whining. Can't stand that guy too big of a cry baby.

AP's out now. We have 45 first-place votes to 20 for UNC, a much wider margin than in the Coaches poll, though the point totals in both polls are very close. That suggests to me that, in the AP poll, anyone who's not voting us #1 is ranking us down a few spots.

Certainly seems that way. I don't really have a problem with anyone voting UNC #1. I happen to disagree, but they're hot and really talented. I do, however, have a problem with someone who would put OU below #2. Seriously, what other teams could you put ahead of OU right now? It's not a big deal in the grand scheme, but this kind of thing irritates me with sportswriters. It's like some of them feel the need to be contrarian just for the sake of it.

I don't think that's necessarily accurate.
We have 25 more first place votes than UNC and 27 more points.
That means (in theory) that there are 2 people that have us 1 that have UNC 3.

we are 27 points ahead in the ap poll ... I would be that means we have almost all the #2 votes (in spots we are not #1)

and ap votes are public unlike the coaches ..

UNC is #3 in 2 polls .. both those guys have iowa #2 ... OU is top 2 on every ballot ..

That's not at all what Williams said and, in my opinion, he was 100% right.

We should enjoy college basketball for what it is and not just see it as a prelude to the NBA. Good for him for saying something.

Thanks for the correction; I'm glad to have been wrong.

As others have said, OU is #1 on 40 ballots and #2 on the other 20 ballots in the AP poll.

The coaches have OU #1 on 14 ballots. Either one coach has OU at #4 and all others at #2, or two coaches have OU at #3 with all others at #2.

People interpret it the way you are but that's not what he's saying. He's whining because ESPN and the ACC are partners and his players aren't getting any attention. Here's most of his quote:

And this is a great time for me to be saying something about it. Because they ain’t mentioning any of my guys, OK. But God almighty, you’re sitting there, you’re trying to win championships, and here it is, January, and ESPN’s talking about some green room and some Chad Ford or who it is and his (draft projections) – that’s the most ridiculous thing we’re having to put up with in college basketball.

“TV drives everything and again, hey, to all those other guys – get ‘em, take ‘em, go. They’re not talking about any of my guys. But that’s the reason why I feel more comfortable in saying something about it. But I mean, seriously, we’re trying to win conference championships, we’re saying college basketball means something.

“And here ESPN, one of our partners, and the only channel that works on my television – I’m going to guarantee you, guys, I don’t know, y’all can tell me your favorite program. I don’t know one program you’re going to list. If it’s not on ESPN, I don’t watch it. And then I’m thinking – God almighty, I’m watching games last night.

I'm not reading it the way you are, and I agree with him, too. NCAA hoops is great on its own and the NBA is mentioned far too often in the coverage of college basketball.
