Considering the "talent" he has to work with he's doing an acceptable job. Write this year off and see what happens next year when we'll be starting over. The year after that will tell.
So he gets a pass on three rough seasons? His feet aren't to be held to the fire until 2012?
Having talent on hand is part of being a head coach at the college level.
If we don't see a significant improvement next season -- and I mean a trip to the Big Dance -- we will be less than an afterthought nationally by the following season.
The point is not that some of us expected us to stay within ten points of a top ten team last night, it's that the program has fallen so far that we're now chastised for those expectations. We're now expected, it seems, to calmly accept blowout losses at home.
This isn't the first game that Bob, Abd, I, Skyview or many other that have criticized Capel have watched. I have probably watched more Big XII games that don't involve OU than most OU fans have watched games involving OU. There are legitimate reasons to question Capel. With that said, Capel has earned my support for another season and I will not change my position even if OU loses all of its remaining games (but he will have a short leash next season if that happens).
Capel is responsible for OU having little talent on its roster. How many years does Capel get to turn around the program? I am tired of the excuses of being young or whatever else people can come up with. I guess my expectations are like Skyvue and fear OU basketball becoming an afterthough nationally.

This gets overlooked more than anything else, I think.
OU and its fans really arent that different from Tech, Nebraska, and Colorado fans right now. Hoping for upsets, hoping to be competitive, hoping to stay within 10 or 15 of good teams, shocked when they actually win, etc.
But, it will turn around eventually.

You guys are jumping to conculsions based on a loss to one of the best teams in college basketball. It wasn't long ago that this team won 4 straight conference games. Can you win 4 straight conference games in the Big 12 with "little talent"? If so, Capel should be coach of the year.
I'm not jumping to conclusions; I'm disheartened that we've fallen so far that we're expected to take last night's loss calmly. Yes, texas has a terrific team, but we used to at least put a darned good scare into such teams, if not pull off the upset. Now, we're expected not to be disheartened or voice complaints when we get our tails kicked at home. Last night's game wasn't nearly as close as the score would indicate. We could easily have lost by thirty.
In the twelve years Sampson spent at the helm, we suffered a total of seven double-digit home losses. Under Capel, we've suffered that many in less than five seasons -- with at least one more to come this year, I fear.
