What if Goff qualifies?

i started by googling both of their names and started following links. grooms has always had looks and turn downs from a better class of schools. blair early on de-commited from new orleans shopping for a better spot. then re-signed when he struck out. grooms was never going to qualify out of high schoola and dropped off the radar until he got his grades up. the place were he comes from in fla. is a JC basketball factory that sends virtually everyone that comes thru on to D1 scholarships. grooms just has a better basketball pedigree.

If Goff makes it here, I see no way he ever really plays. He's a backup on an average JUCO team.
Referring to Goff as a backup is NOT entirely accurate. The coach at Hutch used a 10 man rotation and only one player logged heavy minutes(their pg averaged around 36mpg)>The other 9 players averaged between 10-20 mpg,Goff averaged right at 20.If you project his stats based on playing 30,he is at 12-13 ppg and8-9 rpg. Saying that, academics is most likely going to keep him from making it to OU but if he does,he will likely play.

So in other words, speculation.

Not saying that you are wrong or right, just saying that it is a "guess" on your part. Blair has played D-1 basketball for a year and right now is working with the OU coaching staff, Grooms has not. Good news is in about four months, they'll roll the ball out for practice and in about six months we'll all get to see who CLK thinks should be starting.

of course. you are exactly right. that is my opinion. but, i did do my homework.

Hope that didn't come off as "ripping" you, just reminding that Blair has a year in the program and has been a starter on a B12 team. Ultimately message boards like this are built around speculation, and at least you did some homework, but I think that we all fall into the same trap with guys we haven't seen vs. guys that we have. That trap being that we "know" what Blair is or isn't good at becuase we've seen it, and just assume that the "new" guy will be automatically better.

Here are my speculative guesses is order of how "sure" I am of them:

1. The only two guys that I am absolutely sure will be starters are Osby and Cam. Osby is a "guess" but CLK has singled him out, just like every other person that has seen him practice since he joined the program.

2. Grooms and Blair will be a tougher battle than people think, but whomever wins the job, both players will be better for having to compete for minutes early.

3. Newell and Pledger should be another entertaining fight for minutes. The best part about getting Grooms is that Newell can work full-time at being a SG.

4. Tyler Neal will prove out to be a really solid back-up to Cam and, depending on match-ups, Osby. That being said, if there is a guy on our roster who I think could benefit from a r/s year, it would be him. I thought he did some nice things last season, but would like to see him as a fifth year 22 year old-senior.

5. Fitzgerald will likely start at the Center position, but if CLK sees that he can get plenty of points from Osby, Cam and the SG position [either Newell of Pledger] and there is a better rebounder/defender on the roster, I could see that changing and Fitz being a guy that makes his contribution from the bench.

If he qualifies great if not we go on. One thing about last year is I thought we were pretty lucky on injuries. As in no major ones. We all know we can be just a couple of bad breaks away from plenty of bigs to almost none so it would not hurt to have Goff.

Doesn't matter he won't be coming to OU.
