Looking at the conference next season, here is a preview of the Texas Longhorns. If Isaiah Taylor comes back for his senior season, then Texas will return almost 60% of their scoring from this year’s team.

Texas Departing Scholarship Seniors
Minutes ............ Points .............. Player

944 (28.6 mpg) .. 234 (7.1 ppg) ... Connor Lammert (Senior; 6-10; 235) .. started 33 games
879 (27.2 mpg) .. 352 (10.7 ppg) .. Javan Felix (Senior, 5-11, 205) .. started 31 games
581 (18.2 mpg) .. 132 (4.1 ppg) ... Prince Ibeh (Senior; 6-11; 265) .. started 22 games
452 (14.1 mpg) ... 98 (3.1 ppg) ... Demarcus Holland (Senior; 6-3; 190) .. started 18 games
293 (22.5 mpg) .. 144 (11.1 ppg) .. Cameron Ridley (Senior; 6-10; 290) started 11 games; injured

3,149 minutes for Seniors = 47.4% of total team minutes
960 points for Seniors = 40.8% of total team points

Texas Returning Scholarship Players (> 100 minutes playing time)
Minutes ............ Points .............. Player
1,021 (30.9 mpg) .. 496 (15.0 ppg) .. Isaiah Taylor (Junior; 6-3; 185) .. started 33 games
_ 681 (20.6 mpg) .. 245 (7.4 ppg) ... Eric Davis (Freshman; 6-2; 185) .. started 2 games

_ 397 (12.0 mpg) .. 120 (3.6 ppg) ... Shaquille Cleare, Junior 6-8; 285)
_ 315 (10.5 mpg) .... 91 (3.0 ppg) ... Kendal Yancy ( Junior; 6-3; 210) .. started 15 games

Texas has 3 recruits coming in so far, all are Top-100 / 4-Star rated recruits per 247Sports.

> Andrew Jones (G; 6-4; 180) Irving, TX (#32 national recruit per 247Sports)
> James Banks (C; 6-10; 230( LaPorte, IN (#65 national recruit per 247Sports)
> Jacob Young (PG; 6-0; 1654) Houston, TX (#101 national recruit per 247 Sports)

The Big Question: Isaiah Taylor is their best player. Will he return for his senior season? Will he try to head to the NBA early?

It looks like Texas has room for more recruits, as I only count 9 scholarship players as of now. Please correct me if I am wrong about this, or anything else.

Davis, Roach, and Mack are a really good trio. If they stay all 4 years at Texas that team could be deadly in a few seasons.

If Taylor doesn't leave I see their ceiling as 3rd in the Big XII with their basement being 6th. They lost a lot of senior big men that won't be easy to replace, especially since Ibeh finally learned how to play this season and Lammert created matchup problems with his range.

Felix was feast or famine for the Longhorns and I expect their trio of freshman to easily be able to replace what Felix gave the team.

Great post, Traveler.

Personally, the only players they have that scared me were/are Taylor, Ibeh, and Ridley. So, I'm glad to see Ridley and Ibeh are gone and I hope Taylor leaves too. When Ibeh was in the game in Norman we really struggled but when he went out is when we climbed back in that game. He was a very good rim protector.

Their young guards remind me a lot of Buddy + Cousins + Woodard/Hornbeak a few years ago. They're gonna be good.

My question is does Cleare only play the 5? or can he play the 4? If he can play the 4 then start the big freshman. If he starts at the 5 then maybe could Mack start at the 4 and then Davis Roach and Taylor at the guard positions would be really good. Guards will be very tough next year if Taylor stays..

To paraphrase a certain vice presidential candidate from several years ago:

"I knew Buddy + Cousins + Woodard. And these young UT guards, they're no Buddy + Cousins + Woodard!" :ez-laugh:

Texas will be good sooner than later. Shaka was a really nice hire for them.

While I agree with you 100%, don't sleep on Texas. They are only going to get better moving forward.
