When is a win good enough?

I thought the win was good enough.

I have some opinions on this particular tournament, but the win was good. Got out of it with wins over Dayton and Florida. That's a success, but the tournament was lame.

There were probably 1,000 people in that gym today. Again, I'd rather have more games than play in crap like this. At least the community in Norman gets to come watch them play.

It is a ball room converted to a basketball gym. It only holds a 1000. Not much more attend when the games are in Norman. Good trip for team building and generally play some solid teams that wouldn't come to Norman.

I coached high school basketball for years and I am way too critical for my own good when I watch games.

I see all the little things that OU doesn't do and get ticked (even when they do something wrong and it works out). I seldom think of the good things because that's what they are supposed to do.

Once a coach, always a coach. It's the way coaches operate or at least in my case.

You just described me in less than 80 words. I helped coach middle school and the funny thing is...I'm very patient and understanding with the kids and rarely, if ever, get upset. However, I have a quick trigger when it's the team that I'm a fan of. I guess I expect the young men at that level to be perfect and execute flawlessly.....which is totally unfair and unrealistic. But there are a few things that make me come unglued....and I try not to post my thoughts when that happens.

ada made the bad man go away

We have plenty of others that will take his place. LOL

Actually, I don't know if any of our posters are "bad men" (or women), but I'm convinced we've got more than our share of spoiled brats – or adults who possess the maturity level of an average sixth grader.

Game threads on ouhoops can be downright brutal, as skyvue intimated in his OP. That's why I almost always steer clear of those threads until the game has ended. Whenever I follow the game thread "live," I tend to get much more angry at certain posters than I ever get at the players or coaches.

I avoid the game threads, too, and I think it's kind of shame that so many have to. Negativity rules the roost in those threads except on the rarest of occasions (ie. thirty-point routs).

I think of a sports boards like this one as being something like gathering with a group to watch a game in someone's home or perhaps at a sports bar. I would no more give utterance to my every negative thought here than I would when watching in someone's home with a group of friends and acquaintances. And why in the world good play goes almost entirely unremarked upon while every minor misstep is bemoaned loudly, I'll never understand.

Message boards are message boards and not a source of salvation for these type of boards cause people to seek salvation, quite actually. There's an element of blowing off steam and it should be duly noted as such and nothing else, as opposed to someone revealing one's true soul to the world for all to see. There are no special solutions to what ails the world, never has and never will, and it certainly applies to this and all other boards on the web. Furthermore, motivation tells all and one cannot definitively discern what motivation lies beneath any post made, any. This is the unknown key and without it certain people should refrain from trying to unlock the door.

Yep. I attribute anything extravagant I see on a message board game thread as emotion of the moment and nothing else. I have some funny stories from football watch parties over the years where people have screamed and gestured things far worse than what I have read on this board. We all get a little emotional as fans, just some more than others. :-)

I dunno. 3 games in 3 days against decent teams is good experience. Letting the guys spend some time in the Bahamas is also a nice reward for them. I was there over Christmas last year. Nice place!

this is one tourney I want to go to...the next time. Enjoy the beach.:woot

lol...I use the board as "my buddies watching the game at the bar" attitude. I usually am watching myself...maybe my MIL.

Sorry folks...you get the back end of my "game time frustrations"...:facepalm
