among past Sooners?

Selvy comes to mind. Any Tubbs era guys? The thing that makes him unique from a guy like Pattillo or Taylor Griffin is that he can supposedly really shoot the basketball yet he is suppossed to be more athletic than a guy like Nate Carter.

i'm hoping his impact is more than Selvy. Granted, DS played on some very good teams.

Ace McGhee, maybe. Ace took a while to come into his own....until he bodied up on Lonny Baxter in Norman. After that, it was gravy.

I fully expect him to make us all forget Blake Griffin ever donned the crimson and cream.

Ace McGhee, maybe.

Ace was the best player in college basketball for around the last 3 months of his senior year. I do NOT expect that out of Osby.

BigTime, are you wanting a comparison as far as who's game he'll resemble, or his overall talent level? To me, those can be mutually exclusive.

Best case, I'm hoping his impact will be on par with all but the single best players on recent teams (not Hollis, Najera, Ace, Erdmann, Brewer). So on par with guys like Bookout, Ere, Nolan Johnson and guys like that. Game-wise, or who he'll resemble.....hard to say. I want to say Najera. Ace is a decent comparison, but I see Osby being a better dribble driver, and not the shooter Ace was. I think Najera might end up being a decent comparison, save the over-the-top toughness that Eduardo had.

I think he may be different than any player we've had before as far as playing style goes. I'm excited to see him in action.

.

ace was on some pretty good teams. Osby won't have that luxury, at least not this year. i guess the comparison i wanted to make was a highly regarded, athletic transfer from another school where it didn't really work out....who can play the post. give us 14-16 and 7ish.

be more than a Ryan Wright but "maybe" less than Ace

a cross between aaron mcgee and blake griffin... the athleticism and strength of blake with the touch of ace...

no pressure...

I'm struggling with this one. From reports it sounds like he is more athletic than Ace, not slighting Ace, as a previous poster said he was the best player in college bball after fouling out in Lawrence.

Can he put it on the deck like Nolan? Can he defend like Selvy?

I think it will hit us after he plays a handful of games. It is fun to topic to discuss though.

It was widely reported and the consensus was that Osby was the best player on campus last season. And I certainly hope that those reports are accurate. But, referencing the old axiom, " you are only as good as the league you play in." Well, for Osby, that league for the last year has been the OU practice gym. Won/lost records and performance seem to indicate that was not a very stellar league. There are probably 50 players around the league that could have earned that honor if they were here. He will make the team better. And I am happy about that. But, it is probably overly optimistic to get all ramped up about him being some kind of dominating force.
