Former Sooner or any college player from the past?

Nerlens Noel ... but not quite at that level of overall game.

With his wingspan and hops I see some hakim warrick from the cuse or tyrus Thomas from LSU.

Sticking to only Sooner players...... If you are an "older Sooner" OU had a reserve named Mike "The Helicopter" Bell on the 88 & 89 teams. Remember the 88 team was the NCAA runner-up. He was only 6'5" but could jump out of the gym. He had 23 blocked shots in 102 minutes of action.

Another comparison is Ryan Humprey who played at OU for 2 years before transferring to Notre Dame. He later was an NBA 1st round pick. He was only 6'8" but was quite a jumper, too. He played at Tulsa Washington on the same HS team as 6'10" Etan Thomas (Syracuse) who was also an NBA 1st round pick who played 9 years in the NBA.

Ryan was only 6'6 but had a max vertical at the nba pre draft of 37. He could really jump and had a great wingspan.

Lattin has better ball skills than Hump did but isn't as explosive in my opinion. They are similar in body type but look to score in much different ways.

Lattin game reminds me more of Daryan Slevy if D was 6'9. Wants to be a guard

Lattin doesn't rebound or block shots like a guard. He has shown a desire to take deep shots. I really think he needs to be cured of this habit. He has shown good vision and made some nice passes in the low post in his two games. I have high hopes for this guy.

As far as former players, I might say he reminds me a bit of Jabari Brown. Both could rebound and block shots. Both were big guys that were really athletic. Brown had a more developed offensive game but we didn't see Brown in a game until he was a redshirt sophomore. I would be pleased if Lattin was as good as Brown and I hope he is better.

Lattin needs to keep working on his perimeter game. A stretch 4 is the perfect position for a guy with his build. That's his future.

Kind of reminds me of his grandfather, although not quite as polished yet.

I agree, at least at this point in his career.

I have a feeling Lattin is already working on his perimeter game. Seems obvious to me he has Kruger's permission to take open shots from behind the arc; two in the first game and one last night. I don't think he would have taken another three last night if LK had been unhappy with the shots he took against Washburn. Assuming I'm right about the green light he has right now, that might change if he continues to miss.

I would also be interested to know if he has been taking shots from three in practice? If so, has he demonstrated the ability to make those shots?

He does take shots from deep in practice and hits a good number of them. He has a very nice jumper but I would say, as of right now, the 3 point line is just outside his effective range. He will have to start knocking some down to continue to get a green light but I think they have enough confidence in his ability to let him keep taking them for now.

Good comparison

Hump was not 6'6. At least 6'8 with shoes. I have stood next to him several times.

As far as Lattin, former Sooner player ---- Kenneth Conley

Hump was 6'6 without shoes and 6'7 with them at the pre draft.

I don't doubt that you stood next to him, at the same time I have a good reference window too. I was lucky enough to play on the same team with Ryan several times and against him even more growing up.

Ryan was thicker than Lattin. Lattin is a much better shooter and the coaches think he will be a threat from 3 before his career over.

That explains why he was taking shots from behind the arc in the exhibition games. I had a feeling LK had given him the green light to take those shots.

Ryan wasn't a very good outside shooter. One of the stated reasons he left OU was he wanted to be a wing and have the green light. I think his dad "helped" him decide to transfer. Ironically, he got to Notre Dame and ended up playing inside. I guess it worked out for him because he got drafted as a 1st round NBA pick.

The things I remember about Ryan's playing days at OU are (1) he was a great leaper.... shot blocker deluxe, (2) he wasn't a good shooter.... brick layer, (3) he had a conditioning problem (anemia) ..... he didn't have much stamina on the court, and (4) his game winning tip-in against Arizona in the 1st round of the NCAA.

Comparing Lattin to Humphrey is really a compliment. Ryan wasn't perfect but he had a lot of success playing basketball.... even though he dissed OU.

He reminds me of a lot of guys really. Mostly it would be on a team we were playing and I'd wonder why we couldn't get guys like that.

I've only seen the exhibition games so it's hard to tell. Right now he looks like someone that will make some plays that will drop your jaw. I'm hoping he sticks around long enough to grow and mature.

Ryan was always seen as lazy growing up. He would get tired quickly and wasn't very tough.

He was a great leaper and I witnessed him hitting his head on the rim in 15 and under AAU state dunking in warmups.

Ryan didn't shoot well because his shot was flat. He shot directly at the rim and didn't shoot it where the ball came back down through the goal. He is like many great leapers, they struggle to shoot because they get so high off the floor that they don't have a consistent jump on their shot.

Ryan is a good guy, sometimes misunderstood. His dad wanted him to be the man and Ryan thought he was a wing. THe main reason Hump's dad told him to leave OU was Eduardo was going to be the man and not Ryan.

Ryan was only 6'6 without shoes but was a great athlete and had a huge wingspan around 7'0.

ryan's quote when leaving was he saw his game becoming like scottie pippens ..

except he could dribble or shoot ... that said he was a very very good college player and i was very sad to see him leave ..
