Keep the tournament in KC every fricken year? Such a huge home court advantage for KU, KSU, and ISU. We're literally watching WVU play a road game for the title game

Because KU wins the Big 12 every year and attendance numbers are better that way. If they had it at a truly neutral location like St. Louis, Memphis, Tulsa, etc attendance would likely be way down.

Plus, KC is a good city for entertainment. Lots of good food, public areas, etc.

I always liked the idea of having it in Denver, but now CU is gone so it makes no sense now.

Where else should it be, that would sell out, and have the proper entertainment?

Big 12 basketball belongs in KC.

Big 12 football belongs in Texas

Would it have sold out today if WVU had been playing Baylor?

It should rotate. As for football, there shouldn't be championship game unless the conference is big enough so that the game wouldn't be a rematch of teams that played during the year.

Attendance would be fine if they found a venue in Dallas - 4 Texas teams and 2 OK teams. The Kansas schools and ISU would still make the trip.

Most of the tickets are sold before the tournament even starts. What happens is when Kansas. K State, or I State lose, their fans try to unload their tickets since most of those fans do not actually support the conference - just their own teams.

My dad has often taken me to the tournament and bought tics from OU. Unfortunately OU usually sold tickets not in very good viewing areas. So if one of the teams listed above lost we could walk the arena and often get terrific seats at low prices (sometimes even free) in the lower section near midcourt.

So attendance might be low, but actual tickets sold are not impacted very much - if at all.

That's probably true no matter where the tournament is.

It suits KU for the tournament to be in KC so it is.

Is Ames, Iowa that much closer to Kansas City than Norman or Stillwater? There's really no excuse for half the conference to not be well-represented. Still, for fairness purposes, they should have it in Dallas every few years to accommodate the 4 Texas schools. As for WVU, they knew what they were getting into joining a conference so far from home.

They have had it in both okc and Dallas. People didn't go tickets weren't sold. So now the have it in kc and it's sold out.

Don't confuse ticket sales with attendance.

It would "sell out", or sell as much as KC, in a few different spots.

It should be rotated to be fair, and to allow fans that aren't really close to KC, or cannot make KC for whatever reason, a chance to experience it.

Tulsa/OKC would both do well. And despite what others have said, I thought it was pretty good in Dallas. I'm not against KC having it. Heck, I'm not against KC having it 50% of the time. But it should rotate, maybe KC for a year, then Tulsa, then KC, then Dallas, then KC, then OKC. Something like that.

Tickets were sold. Attendance might not have been as good, but the tickets were sold.

It isn't due to ticket sales or attendance.

Here are some numbers shown by Big-12 as attendance per session (since sales are always "sold out") from the years when it used to rotate:

2001 KC 15,250
2002 KC 17,457
2003 DA 15,800
2004 DA 17,002
2005 KC 18,268
2006 DA 18,238
2007 OKC 18,879
2008 KC 18,876
2009 OKC 15,769

The years with low attendance had to do with what teams advanced. For example in 2009, the final game was between Missouri and Baylor, but the tournament was in OKC. the same happened for the other "lower" attendance figures - no matter where the game was played. Note that the highest attendance was actually in OKC (in 2007) over those years.

Politics are the reason for placing the championships. It appeared that to get the football and WBB tournaments out of KC, the negotiation gave KC the men's tournament on a regular basis.

Ames, Iowa to KC - 229 miles
Stillwater to KC - 320 miles
Norman to KC - 369 miles

Guess I better brush up on my geography...didn't know it was that much difference in distance. I can see someone wanting to drive 4 hours to a destination, but not 6-7.

I like that it's in Kansas City every year. Dallas would be fine too, except none of the Texas school's fans would show up.

yeah, I love it here...but I'd like to see it rotate, KC, OKC, Dallas...

all 3 cities have things to offer and honestly ku fans will travel.

Are there any other conferences that have championship tournaments and don't rotate the sites? I noticed the Big Ten tournament was in DC this year. What about the ACC, SEC etc?
