Its a sad story, but history repeats itself all the time.

I don't think either of them fell from OU grace or anything, but both of them would have been drafted alot higher if they hadn't returned for another year at OU.

Willie's problem was purely attitude based. He had all the buzz around him by skipping the draft as a potential lottery pick and stayed in school to pull off a BG type move. He was all the talk in the offseason camps and had better stats (except T.O.s) in his soph class than he did as a fresh. I know he missed some game time with injuries, but still the numbers don't lie.

I want to say the 76ers drafted Minor in the 2nd round but he never made the team. I would be surprised if Willie doesn't have a long pro carreer and eventually reaches his potential. He is a bad man with the rock when he wants to be.

R U serious. Ryan Minor was a model student athlete at OU.

Willie Warren was a headache for his coach and tanked the lockerroom with his sophomore year.

They don't compare at all.

I wish WW well, but don't put him in the league of Ryan Minor.

Did he "not make the 76ers" or did he chose to play baseball, instead?

Ryan Minor choose to play baseball for the Baltimore Orioles. Let's not forget he was a National Champion baseball player at OU and was first team all american in baseball.

The comparison that he is the same as Willie is ludicrous. That being said, Willie Warren is a steal, he will be a prime time player in the NBA.

Hadn't we shifted much of the blame off of Willie and onto TMG this offseason? I still think he gets blamed way too much, wasn't he slightly injured for most of the season and playing anyway?

Ryan's drop in production as a Senior had a lot to do with facing double-teams and a lot of physical defense on the perimeter designed to keep him from catching the ball and having time to square and shoot.

Willie's lesser Sooner season as a star had less to do with that....and more to do with other things.

I think the comparison lies with the likelihood that BOTH players would have been solid 1st round picks had they left a year before they did. I believe both would have been picked somewhere in the middle of the first round. From a business standpoint, returning to OU was a bad decision.

The problem is that the "blame" for the season can't be firmly fixed, although almost every message board poster would like to be able do that, so they will know who to scream should be fired and ran off.

The truth of the matter is that there were multiple factors that combined to create the horrible season. I believe that Coach Capel is most responsible, but that is different from saying that he is to blame. Because he is the head coach, he has to take responsibility for what happened and he has to learn from it, make the adjustments and never let it happen again. As well, though, I don't personally believe that he could have foreseen what happened, so I stop short of blame. I believe he will turn things around and contrary to what many people believe, I think he will eventually field teams with high level, talented recruits and also have a great deal of success come tourney time. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive, regardless of the one bad season when one was present in the other's absence.

Ryan was never an A-A in baseball. Damon did receive honorable mention A-A status though.

I do not remember these uni's

Ryan Minor's drop in production? Maybe a little bit but it's not near the fall of others have had. He had almost 2 less points far less better shooting %, and almost 1 less rebound a game. But I would take his stats his senior year in a second.

If Minor dedicated himself to Basketball instead of deciding to go with baseball he might have made it in the NBA. But he made the MLB was thought to be the guy to replace Cal Ripken and in fact he was the guy that replaced Cal at the end of his streak if I'm not mistaken. But he never was able to hit a curve consistently and eventually fizzled out. His brother actually had a little better career if I remember right. He still made it into the Majors which is far better than anyone else here.

Ryan Minor is still one of my all-time favorite Sooners. To compare him to WW?? Ludicrous.

Ryan is my favorite player to ever wear the Sooner uniform and I agree that it is not a good comparison. They didn't even play the same position.

Yep, the similarity between Warren and Minor is mindblowing. Completely diferent staff and fifteen years later...I smell a trend here.

Somewhere Ryan Minor just threw up in his mouth.

According to Wiki he is the hitting and infield coach for the Class A Orioles team in the minor leagues.

Delmarva?

Dang...sort of like Willie's end of this comparison at this point. Seriously though, Ryan was in a tough, tough spot...who replaces Ripkin Jr.? The saddest part is that Ryan probably never got to have beers with Trabes.
