Wisconsin's Bo Ryan to retire after this year

What a coaching career. He has been at Wisconsin the past 14 seasons, and has made the NCAA Tournament all 14 seasons.

In 14 seasons at Wisconsin, Bo Ryan had an outstanding .741 winning percentage. For comparison purposes, in 14 seasons at OU, Billy Tubbs had a .716 winning percentage.

Ryan's coaching career began in 1972 at Brookhaven Junior High School in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, where for one year he worked as a history teacher and basketball head coach.

I didn't realize he had done so well. In 12 years at KU Self has a .819 winning percentage. I use that because most of us are familiar with how well KU has done over the last 12 years.

He did that against a strong conference. During that period of time, the Big Ten put 12 teams in the final four, including Michigan State five times, Ohio State twice,, Wisconsin twice, Michigan once, Illinois once, and Indiana once. In comparison the Pac Ten sent four teams to the final four with UCLA going three times. The Big XII sent six teams, the SEC sent 7 teams, the ACC sent 10 teams, and the Big East sent 10 teams.

Bo has been a great coach. He's flown under the national radar but his teams simply win games. It's not like he does it with 5-star one-and-done players either.
