I've just got to know one thing. Had anybody on here actually seen these dudes play?

Or was it one of those deals where we heard we were recruiting them, realized there was interest from them too, and decided it would be nuclear armageddon if we didn't sign them?

I'm really sick of seeing posts like this. Get your head out of the sand. If you don't think missing out on Carter AND Poland AND N'diaye is a recruiting disaster, you are seriously deluding yourself. But you're right I'm sure they're just bums that schools like Washington and Gonzaga were recruiting based on word of mouth alone.

Ndiaye really hurts missing on..but we have to move on at this point...we really really need to find another athletic big that can block shots...I am just affraid that guy may not be out there

I guess it is not these three inparticular but the trend is towards not getting enough to fill out the team. I mean really we should probably not have 3 open scholarships for next next and none comitted for the year after that. Things could turn out fine for us or go completely down the tubes and I think it will only take one more good or bad thing to send us in that direction. I am keeping my hopes up that we get the good news first.

1. My head is OUT of the sand.
2. I feel I'm not deluded.
3. I never called them bums. Why? Because I've never seen them play.
4. I feel some get too involved in the recruiting process. Get commitments, then get excited and learn about the player. Instead, we hear we're recruiting a player and we're including them in starting lineups for the next year.
5. Chip Ambres!

Nice post....I agree...I think it could really go either way...we desperately need a shot blocker or atleast another scorer (assuming tiny is back)...so if we get ross or jones alongside tiny we should be ok...if we dont get either and gallon is gone we may be in trouble

But one would think capel knows the situation he is in...so he I am sure is most def. working in overtime to get some talent AND I believe he is fighting for his job

think people are just trying to find anything positive to cling to right now, earlier this week I saw people posting how valuable Hardrick was to the program because we need players who will stay four years at graduate.
The silver lining is quite hard to find right now.
And if you don't sign Chip Ambres, there's always a John Connor waiting for you.

Time for Capel to start talking to Stoops about some players. Does anyone know if Lane Johnson (6-7 / 252 TE) can ball?

I agree with this.

I'll also say I never understood the thought that we "had to have" N'Diaye. We have a 7 foot stiff sitting on the bench, do we really need another one?

Give me a William Cheese Davis or a Ernie Abercrombie anyday...that is what we need more than anything. Somebody who is a ferocious rebounder and defender inside and can score if needed.

Fitz may eventually grow into that. I doubt it will be in time to save next season...or Capel.

That's the stuff that's contagious. I woke up one day never having heard of the guy and by the end of the night he's a "must have". How is that possible? One guy says it and everyone runs with it.

Let the chips fall in recruiting. When we've got a class then learn all you can about them. Instead of worrying about some guy from thousands of miles away go over to youtube and watch some video of Taylor or Clark. It's therapeutic.

It doesn't matter whether these guys are great or not. If they are good players then we missed out on good players. If they stink, then we were just snubbed by guys who stink and that may be a sign of even worse problems.

Either way, losing out on these guys is a bad thing.

i don't recall terrell everrett having a lot of recruiting hype surrounding him. and he like other sampson jucos turned out alright.

problem for me is that capel hasn't shown he can find those guys. i guess that stems from being unwilling to do so or go that route. but when i find myself dreaming of another omar leary for next year, things aren't good. until he proves he can evaluate talent at all levels, then i'm going to be a little disappointed when a guy like aziz commits elsewhere. the sky fell awhile ago. this was just some debris falling from the trees.

I sure hope Poland reads this thread since he's said he didn't commit to USF and OU is trying to get him in one more time... What will you say if he does end up in Norman?

I'll say much more if 2 years from now he's still on campus and making an impact on the team. :)

If he ends up in Norman I'll be thrilled to have him. Again, I've never seen him play, so I have no clue if he's the second coming of Byron Eaton or Mark Eaton.

I let those who want to be Sooners affect me and my meltdown.

I haven't seen one second of film on these guys but the gnashing of teeth is from the fact that Coach Capel has obviously pursued these guys aggressively and has apparently missed out on them. These guys were not our first options. The vast majority of high-quality players with eligibility for next season will not be available to be recruited in the very near future.

I have read all of your posts on this thread and it makes me happy to see that some of us have common sense. People professing that such and such is the answer to our problems always amazes me. People watch youtube videos and act like they "know" something.

If and when we get a recruit, educate yourself the best you can, then wait to actually see them play at the D-1 level, then form opinion of said players talent. Anything short of this is conjecture, hyperbole and a total waste of time.
