With All the Wailing and Gnashing of Teeth Over Missing on N'Diaye/Poland

Here's my issue ...

I'm not so much worried about the names of who'll be playing, but right now I'm more worried about the fact that there's gaping holes at PG and C and it appears nobody that OU would have is interested in filling those spots. I'm not advocating signing a guy just because he's tall, OU needs players and shouldn't just sign bodies. That's a problem that a lot of losing coaches have before they get fired. So yea, OU will sign who they sign, etc., but it's not going to make me feel better when OU struggles with press breaks, can't defend in the post, and get outrebounded 90% of the time.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see a lot going on with the program right now that makes me feel great about the direction. I'm very happy with the guys coming in with this class, but I'd feel better about the direction of the program if it looked like there was a true PG and some post defense/rebounding reporting next year.

Yuuup, that's why I don't even watch video on a recruit until AFTER they have committed to us. It's no sense getting all up in a frenzy when the dude doesn't even end up a Sooner. I feel what you're saying Sooner04. Now once the guy commits I'm COOKOO FOR SOONER-PUFFS!!!! lol

If he ends up in Norman I'll be thrilled to have him. Again, I've never seen him play, so I have no clue if he's the second coming of Byron Eaton or Mark Eaton.

I let those who want to be Sooners affect me and my meltdown.

I dont think he'll be much like Mark Eaton.

I guess it is not these three inparticular but the trend is towards not getting enough to fill out the team. I mean really we should probably not have 3 open scholarships for next next and none comitted for the year after that. Things could turn out fine for us or go completely down the tubes and I think it will only take one more good or bad thing to send us in that direction. I am keeping my hopes up that we get the good news first.

Has Richard Peters de-committed?

Poland--Carter--Thompson--One HSer

We have a competitive shot with these additions...

Ive got my fingers crossed.

Coach Capel, Some Sooner fans still support you-- Boomer!!

If Capel's HSer is Jones and the other guys you mentioned, this thing gets turned away quickly.

huggins is supposedly going to be in wichita to visit poland. additional evidence that his commit to usf is less than solid.

i will say these last couple of years i have been more in-tune to the recruits because Capel has been in on and bringing in very solid talent, but we see that doesnt always amount to a whole lot...

I think i'd rather go back to how i was during the Sampson years and not really care until i see them sign on the dotted line, learn a little about them and learn to love their game seeing them play (in a OU uniform/not a highlight reel) rather than from what someone says they can do or should do...

Agreed. I'd never heard of Jason Detrick, but he threw down a monster dunk in his first game in the fall of 2001. I was hooked.

Same with Terrell Everett in the fall of 2004.

Who's this new cat running the point? Michael Johnson? Cool, he looks tough.

And on and on it went.

Every other day here it's a new name we've never heard of and all of a sudden he's a must! Gotta have him or its sure to be thunderdome! Pish posh.

James Hale helped me to become this way during the Gibbs/Schnelly/Blake years. Every recruiting class was ranked #1 and was going to enable OU to win the conference and NC the following year.

I'll never forget him pumping Carlos Baker, a DL from Frederick, OK. Carlos was supposed to be the best player James has ever seen at DL (I think he was actually a DE). He was going to revolutionize the DL position and was going to be both the 2nd and 3rd coming of Lee Roy Selmon all in one fell swoop. Carlos never played a down in Norman. I can name 50 other players during that time period that were pumped the same way and most played very little if at all (if they even stayed at OU).

Doesn't sound too different than today, actually.
