With KHard likely gone.....

So ray willis stays two years then goes to capel and asks to leave? dont think so...

Orlando Allen gets his girl pregnant, and he comes out and says he is leaving the team to focus on that but ends up at marshal? dont think so...

Coaches will say kids chose to leave the team just like a good employer will give you the chance to resign instead of being fired...

If Capel was in fact booting players off the team, players who actually saw court time, why would he have not booted Hardrick? To me this theory isn't sound unless there is more to the story.

youre right i dont talk to rays brother on a daily basis & i didnt ask orlando about his decision considering i was good friends with him & helped him & his girlfriend out when she was pregnant. mkay. thanks.

because he is WRONG thats why. orlando told me many times he did not like capel & was leaving after last year. he told me this in like january/february & he wanted to go overseas & play then he told me he decided to take care of the baby. obviously he changed his mind, but im just sayin. also ray wanted to go back to georgia where hes from.

This is how it usually goes down: Coach and player meet after the season, coach probably informs player (i.e. Willis and Allen) you're not fitting into our system right now and won't be getting much, if any playing time. Player then decides which course of action they want to take, usually it is a transfer.

Happens all over the country, Capel is pulling schollies are booting anyone, he is giving the player the option to make a decision given the facts on the table.

Free education along with the perks that go along with being on the basketball team. He is from here so family and friends are around. He is not going to be playing pro anywhere so might as well get a free education at a good school, seems like a sweet deal to just show up to practice.

You would get free education and perks that go along with being on a basketball team if you played at NSU, Oklahoma City University, Panhandle State, etc as well.

AND, he would actually get to play basketball.

You may be right, I dont know nor have I talked to either one of the two...I was solely saying that it seems real wierd he tells everyone he was leaving to take care of his girl then he ends up playing somewere else..
But maybe he did change his mind....do we know why he didnt like capel?

Maybe, just maybe, he would rather have a degree from OU than Jerkwad State University since he's smart enough to know his future is not going to include being paid to play basketball?

If he worked hard in practice, kept his nose clean, and stuck to his studies, then he deserves to keep his scholarship. This isn't the pros, it's college.

It appears he hasn't held up his end on the academic tip, so all bets are off. But if he had, then there'd be no excuse for pulling his scholarship.

I agree 100%. I want OU to be a school of integrity. I want the University to set an example for young people by owning its mistakes and living with the consequences.

PS - I am not saying Kyle was a mistake. I have zero problem with Oklahoma kids getting scholarship offers early. Had he not had injuries and grown as projected who knows what would have happened.

It is an athletic scholarship. They are year at a time. There is no 4 year scholarship, they have to be renewed every year for the returning players. I knew that when I signed one.
You don't deserve to keep your athletic scholarship just for being a good guy.
Like i stated I can see where honoring it for a year but to just keep him on burning a valuable scholarship is no a good practice to make especially if you want to keep your job and win ballgames.
And yes there is nothing wrong with telling a kid that their scholarship will not be here the next year and then help that player find other options. That is the right thing to do.
I have seen that done numerous times.

he felt he shoulda been playin over the guys who were starting & felt like capel did not give him a fair chance.

HUH? You're questioning why someone might rather stay at OU than go to the above schools?

(Before people start jumping down my throat, those are all fine schools, I have family who went to one of the above schools, but unless they weren't studying optometry, they would have gone to OU in an instant).

But, (unless he is delusional) he probably knew he wasn't going to do much balling on the next level, so why the heck not try to finish your education at the state's flagship university? Now, if the stuff about his not doing his work in the classroom is true, it's moot, but the decision to stay at OU--despite any kind of playing time--doesn't seem crazy to me in the least.

Capel will probably wait until right before the fall semester and pick up an overrated Juco player...possibly even a mid/high major talent Oklahoma kid that wont see action till he is long gone...

Rather see him get the Oklahoma kid in this scenario...

Hardrick barely qualified...he has never been scholar in the classroom.

Might as well add Richardson to the roster if we're only taking marginal talent these days. At least he may develop into a good college player.

Do they get to use his if he's gone or will OU take a hit for APR? Will they give Honore a Scholly?

I hope not. While Honore seems like a good kid who plays hard, he obviously doesn't belong at this level and wasting a scholarship on a kid that will barely play when we are so short on talent now, would be a waste.

Since you and lucky brought up the topic of Orlando Allen, I saw him play a couple of nights ago when Marshall upset West Virginia. He didn't play a lot of minutes, he got two early fouls in the first half and had to sit. He scored four points and snagged two or three rebs during that time, and he seemed to be moving pretty well, despite the apparent weight gain. I couldn't help but notice that he appears to have picked up a few pounds since he left OU. He's listed at 290, but looks more like he's around 310 to 320.

It was strange to see Mark Cline on the bench as an assistant and the "Big O" in a Herd uniform.
