Woodard and Hield, 1 and 2 nationally

Regardless of how you look at it, what OU's shooters are doing is really amazing. On most teams, a guy shooting in the upper 30s is a pretty good shooter, and anyone in the 45+ range is considered a sniper. Tim Heskett set OU's all time percentage record in 1999 shooting 47%. Guys like Kelly Newton and Michael Neal were considered shooting specialists and "only" shot 43 and 42 respectively during their best seasons. To have 3 guys (starters no less) shooting those kinds of percentages with that kind of volume is unreal.

Spangler is at .378, Walker is .359 and Buford is .467. Those are all very solid numbers.

Yes, they are. Averages of 35% or better are thought to be very respectable most of the time. Buddy and Jordan, Isaiah too for that matter, have set the bar so high, no one but diehards like us gives anything under 40% much thought.

And we had posters here scoff at last week's Golden State comparisons!

Seriously, on the volume of shots they're taking... and especially with Jordan ' s improved stroke... that might be our most impressive stat after our win percentage.

Our 3 point barrage just validates what a smart coach Kruger is. The "conventional" wisdom was "live by the 3, die by the 3." turns out the conventional wisdom was just idiocy and the 3 point shot is basically the best thing you can be doing, and you're actively hurting yourself if you aren't bombing away from downtown.

What is amazing is that Woodard and Hield aren't 3 point specialists. Guys that hang out at the line and wait for the ball (Think Kelly Newton and Tim Heskett). Those two are integral parts of the offense and the defense AND they kill it from the 3 point line.

How does Buddy's makes per game (3's) compare over history, both at OU and nationally? Reddick(sp) might be a good comparison, as he shot and made a lot of threes his senior season.

I am pretty sure the most per game in OU history was 3.5 by Erdmann. He has the most made in a season (105) and OU only played 30 games that season. That is found on Soonerstats.com.

That link says the most per game was by Darrin Fitzgerald of Butler in 86/87 at 5.64 Buddy is at 4.16 on the season. According to that link that would be 18th all time (assuming I can count correctly).
