Would you draft Trae Young?

The only way he could improve his nba stock is if:
1. He grows;
2. He gets more athleticism

Neither of those will happen. Hell go pro

I just don't see him having a great nba career.
I could be wrong obviously.
His best asset is his vision.
He has great range but I'm not sold on him being a great shooter.
He doesn't finish necessarily well either.
And isn't athletic enough to play great defense.

Trae’s game is better suited for the NBA than college:

*Double teams will be practically nonexistent. NBA defenders aren’t going to leave their man to double a PG.

*The missed layups, dunks and wide open shots we’re seeing now will be assists.

*He’s good enough off of the dribble to get his shot off, plus he will continue to improve with more time to work on his crossover and his moves.

*The great vision you talk about and his ability to find and pass to an open teammate are what makes him special.

Trae Young will be star in the NBA! Pros like LeBron know that. That’s why he gets so much attention from them.

no doubt. watch his passing on the break and when he penetrates. the kid has amazing vision and passing skills. I cant even think of a comparison over the last 50 years. probably nash and jason kidd.

Seems to be a concensus that he is awesome and should be a lottery pick.

I don’t get why his team doesn’t win games? To me winning is the most important characteristic of a player. He is fun to watch and obviously a huge offensive talent. I don’t see the things some criticize about his offensive game. However something just isn’t working with this team and I can’t figure it out

Trae doesn’t get a lot of help..... with Lattin and Odomes starting, the only guys who can help offensively are CJ and Manek, and Manek can’t put the ball on the floor and create his own shot. We’re very limited.

Defense is a whole different story.

Of course, I would draft Trae. You don't really find a lot of point guards who have good vision.

I think they'll find out he is a good deal more athletic than they believe. But, I also think his deficiencies can be overcome with experience. I also believe that they will be more easily overcome in the pros than in college. He needs people who can catch his passes, who can go up and shoot, who will actually be there when he draws double coverage. He needs to be around talent.

yep. Back when I was still thinking he could/might come back I was watching him play and came to the realization that he was just eons ahead of everyone on our roster. He was passing guys open and they wouldnt see the lane or hitting them in stride and they would bauble or hesitate. He's just ahead of them. It's like when I watched Jason Kidd in high school. you just saw right off how much better he will be when he has the appropriate talent around.

You've read it multiple times on this thread. The talent around him is crap. Big XII teams figured out they could double Trae and not get punished for it, and it turned this team back into the same team that went 12-20 last year.

He's terrible defensively. He cannot guard the 1 in the NBA. I wouldnt draft him in the lottery. Id say somewhere between 18-25 is where I would take him.

So, you're saying you wouldn't draft him.

I'd be willing to bet that 32 NBA executives disagree with your assessment.

No, I said between 18-25. I think that counts as being drafted.

Sure. Trey sucks because I think hes a mid 1st rounder.

First of all, you've been making the argument he's a late 1st-rounder, so nice strawman attempt there. Second, my point was that every NBA executive -- who I'd put money on knows a little more about basketball and the NBA than you do -- would put him higher up on the board than you did.

If you think he sucks, there's not a lot of hope for you. It would help you and about 80% of the members here to gain a little perspective during this losing streak. Hopefully you'll still be around when they break that streak.

NBA scouts and execs are not always correct. There are always guys that are rated way to high and are busts.

Somebody that has an opinion that Trae is a mid 1st rounder shouldn't be flamed for it.

He's played the first half of the season as a for sure lottery pick and top 5 pick. But the last handful of games, he is not playing well at all.

At this point, I think he has a better chance of being a bust than an all star. We will see in due time.

What concerns me is he is not winning. To me that is an extremely important attribute of a good player. I am sure there are examples of players that have Ben really good and did not win prior to being in the pros but I suspect their are more important campers of people consistently winning.

Winning in college has zero correlation with pro success, aside from the fact that most elite players choose to go to Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, etc., where they will be surrounded by great talent and win a lot of games.

I disagree. I think most high draft picks won in college. Texas was really strong when Durant was at Texas. OU was strong when Blake was at OU. OU was strong when Buddy was at OU. They may not make the final four but they l as their teams to good seasons for that program.

just for a reference, since everyone likes to compare him to Curry, Davidson had very good years when Steph was there. Around 10 loss seasons, but if you look at the schedules, they got better as the year went on and ended the regular season on massive winning streaks.
