I just got home a bit ago and turned on the game. Good news I guess (but it means more Capel) is that we are going to get the win. The bad news, how embarrassing of an atmosphere. I have never in my life seen a stadium so empty. How do you recruit to an empty stadium? I knew it would be bad, but that is awful.

Rip me all you want, I don't care. It is embarrassing and sad to see LNC empty like that.

2 things.
1. Its december attendance is always down
2. We have lost 5 in a row.
=low attendance

Get real!!NO one is going to watch this crapp!!!!!!!!!!

If OU was good, there would be 6-7k fans which is pathetic in its own right. I guess having half that many when the team is bad seems about right. Either way, it makes recruiting that much harder. If I'm a rival coach and butting heads with OU for a recruit, I'm showing that recruit how awful OU's fan base is.

ALL the listed reasons are nothing but EFFIN BS.

Being a successful b-ball program takes a commitment from everyone, the administration, the coaches, the players, the students, the fans, etc.

There are more people on this board who get their rocks off from RIPPING Capel and the players on the team than were in the seats the tonight. That is truly PATHETIC!!! True fans support their teams regardless of how many W's or L's they have. You will always see some drop off in attendance when a team struggles...but tonight was completely unacceptable. For all you losers who expect Capel to land all these HS All_Americans instead of just coming in 2nd or 3rd for them..how about giving him a hand but getting your A$$ in the seat!!??!! Thats an impossible task for any coach!

2nd dumbest post of the day.

Actually, I thought it was spot on. The attendance issue must be an "Oklahoma-thing." I've been to several OU games (all far away from Norman) and the number of OU fans has usually been quite impressive.

I'm going from 2 season tix to 4 next season. In for the long haul...

You would think all those who want a new coach would start showing up to some games. What big name successful coach is going to leave their current school to come play in front of three thousand people each night in a down year?

No, I obviously agree that OU needs people in the seats but you have to give them something to watch. If I were in Norman, I'd buy season tickets myself...BUT the casual fan is not going to come and watch this crap. There's very, very little talent on the team and the program needs a breathe of fresh air. Until that happens, fans aren't going to go in droves. It won't happen. Telling people they're losers for not going to watch losers is absolutely retarded. It's a very delicate line...people do need to show up to spark interest for recruiting but AGAIN it isn't happening until something changes for the better. That won't be this year, so Capel needs to find a way to generate excitement or Joe C may need to create a new spark.

If we are searching for a coach, not expecting a "big name" to leave his post and come here anyway.

With low attendance I can show up right at tip and get a great seat in the student section. Positve outlook!

Plus with the low attendance I get to sit next to actual basketball fans. My favorite comment of the night came when some chick screamed Cade's name after he got a rebound. A girl sitting behind me goes, "Wow, someone's a big fan of Cade ...as he walks down the court."

Smart fans don't show up when a poor product is trotted onto the floor, field etc. If fans show a school or more appropriately, a pro franchise, they will fill the seats no matter what product is put displayed in front of them, the fans will continue to see a poor product. If those in charge are encouraged to not try to bring a quality team to a region, there is no incentive to change.

Attendance is one way fans get to voice an opinion and disapproval of their team. Reference the LA Clippers.

What amuses me, it is always someone NOT at the game that starts these threads. I don't mind the bashing of attendance but you need to be there to have the right to bash. I don't mind the low attendance personally. I get to sprawl my legs out on the row in front of me and also get the choice to sit anywhere I want. Yeah we may be terrible but for a Thurs night I would MUCH rather be in LNC than at home hearing my wife watch Greys Anatomy on TV.

Hats off to Thirst Buster, always seems to pull it out in the end...

What you're saying may apply to pro sports, but it shouldn't apply to college sports. When OU was getting 60-65k into Memorial Stadium during the John Blake years, were they being stupid...or setting the table for OU to attract a big-time coach who understands OU's football tradition and the FANS desire to win?

apparently they said there was 7k fans there last night. there is NO way that is possible! anyone else that went think there was MAYBE 3k
