Writer Slams Wayman upon his Death!!!!

Billy is one of those people that others tend to love or hate. There is no middle ground. After Billy passes, there will be articles that praise him and articles that condemn him. That's a given. But Wayman is the exact opposite. I think the writer of this article is the first person I've ever seen who has written anything even remotely negative about Wayman. The fact that he wrote it at all says much more about him than it does Wayman.

Well said.

First: I have great memories of Wayman. He was one year younger than me at OU. I missed no more than one or two games he played, and it was an absolute thrill to see him play. I got my first season ticket as a freshman in 81, and have one since-and he was a big reason. He lived beneath me at the old Yorkshire Apartments for several months (his junior year I believe) and I remember hearing him playing his base below. I can't say anything more than has been said; he was a truly decent person.

Second (and I almost hate to even bring this up at this time since we just lost Wayman), as I recall, there was some history with KU predating the nets being cut down at Fog Allen. Until about 1985, first round games of the Big 8 Tournament were played at campus sites, with top seeds getting to host. In 83, KU beat OU in the first round, and I believe the game was in Norman. There was some type of incident after the game-and I want to say they cut the nets down. Do any of the older guys remember this? I was at the game, but my memory is hazy after a quarter century. I'm fairly sure it was KU, but it is possible it was another team in 82. Anybody remember this?

I didn't live in Oklahoma at the time, but I moved back right after the '84 "incident" at Allen Field House. I did at least hear scuttlebutt, and read some DOK letters to the editor, that did indicate the Beakers did something after winning at the LNC in the '83 Big 8 tourney that really bothered some OU folks. I just don't know exactly what it was.

Doesn't matter who did what. It's just a basketball game. When did recognizing something during a game become more important than someone who has had an amazing life and touched many people. When Tim Tebow dies, no decent person should note the time he taunted some guy during the BCS game. When Eddie goes, who cares about his past transgressions, he was a good man. Same for Larry Brown. It would be classless to single in on KU getting put on probation after their NC, when he has had an amazing professional career. I hope Woodling is not dealt the same fate he dealt to Wayman.

I would just ignore him, kcoukid. He was the same way on the other board under the name, dcranchsooner. He got banned over there several times.

RIP WT! :eek:ldwt356:

a lot of things just became very very clear....
