Nice to see a conference focusing strictly on hoops. That's going to be a heck of a conference just like the old days. Syracuse & Pitt will regret leaving. Their football programs will still be doormats and their hoops programs are going to lose northeast talent to the catholic schools in the big east.

Scary thought...Brad Stevens is going to start to get more elite talent.

We need to go after Cincinnati and maybe south florida

Gonna be a heck of a basketball league.

There's bigger fish out there than Cincy and Louisville to poach. These other guys are going to learn soon enough that it's hard to make everyone happy with so many mouths to feed. 12's a conference, 14's a crowd, 16's a cluster****. Rather than settle or wish for what might have been, think about better case scenarios: Will Nebraska tolerate being with several Texases (Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State) instead of one? Which ACC member will get sick of their bloated setup first? Is the SEC infallible?

If we do want to add now, let's consult our out-east couchburners and see which rival they miss the most

reportedly the New Big East is also adding St Louis and Dayton in 2014 to have a 12 team league

That is actually a good idea. FSU would be better than South Florida but that would give the Big XII a connection to Ohio and Florida. It would help recruiting and bring in really good TV markets. Ohio has Cinci, Columbus and Cleveland which are all big cities. It also has a bunch of good sized cities like Toledo, Youngstown, etc. Lots of televisions in Ohio. Florida is the same way only larger. Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and Miami are all large markets. Florida also has some nice sized second tier markets like Ft. Meyers.

The recruiting advantages and TV markets make this an excellent idea in my opinion. It is a much easier sell to a kid in Florida or Ohio to play football or basketball at OU if the games are on TV in Florida and Ohio. I am sure lots of them are still on TV in those states but if the conference had a presence, I think virtually all of them would be TV in those states.

I would actually support going to a 14 team conference and trying to get two schools from those states. Cinci and a Mac school plus South Florida and FSU would be huge for the conference. It would make Florida as much a Big XII school as it is an SEC and ACC school. You probably can't convert Ohio from a Big Ten school without Ohio State but two schools would help.

I don't know which one they necessarily miss the most, but unless something's changed very recently, Pitt's their most hated rival & it's not close.

Are these teams joining the SMU Big East? Or Georgetown, St Johns Big East?

Syracuse and Pitt are probably going to reap twice the amount of money that they received from Big East so that will definitely soften their move.

They are joining the real big east.

Villanova
Georgetown
St Johns
Marquette
Providence
Seton Hall
DePaul
Butler
Xavier
Creighton

The other version has fallen apart as Boise St withdrew and the basketball schools broke away.

So what is going to be left of the "Big East"? The part that SMU and Houston were suppose to join, and that TU was rumored to be joining?

I cannot tell you how much I hate all this conference realignment crap. I heard that WVU is asking the Big 12 for $$ help for travel expenses? Should have worked that out BEFORE joining.
