#18 OU vs #9 Baylor 7pm 2/2

I just had to go over to the Bears forum and see what they were saying.
Quote:

"Coach Nicki Collen on post game Baylor radio blamed the refs, blamed players missing their D assignments and even blamed the other teams Operations team for "poor planning" which threw Baylor off of its regular game day schedule. Went so far to blatantly state it was the worst officiating Baylor has experienced this season."

Also a quote from what was going to be put in their local paper tomorrow:
"Collen was particularly unhappy with the circumstances of the night, considering family night was delayed due to travel problems for Oklahoma."

I am so sorry we messed up your "plans". The weather wasn't our fault. Think of the stress that was put on our girls, trying to get to the game. I'm just so glad we beat them. How SWEEP it is!!!

Complaining about refs is the losers lament. Lots of blaming her players. That is a frustrated coach that is mad that she lost.

^^^This.

I guess I should be a little more understanding regarding a coach's comments after her team just suffered a close loss. But some of the stuff she said was just completely over the top. So, I'll take back the comment I made about her in a previous post: She's not much like Mulkey at all – she's five times worse.

Fun game to watch. Congrats ladies. Madi is really good isn't she.

As for the refs, I have said on this site often that I find officiating poor overall in women's basketball. Not biased just not competent. I feel the same about last night's game I guess.

The baylor coach seemed to ***** the most about fouls being called on their players on our kid's drives to the basket. Baylor kids couldn't stay in front of our drivers but continued to body them all the way through the shot. Normally they didn't hit our players with their arms (didn't reach). Their coach complained about everyone of those calls. I guess she disagrees with me that those are fouls. In the boys games, they don't call those fouls. You can commit a felonious assault on a kid going to the basket in the boys game and as long as the contact isn't with your arms or hands it isn't a foul.

So, I don't know the rules and don't know whether she is right or not.

Anyway, I think the pressure is mounting on the baylor coach. She has talent and isn't winning with it like Kim.

Baylor players know how to flop. It's a skill. Not complaining about that because they have success with that. We could learn from that.

Bickle is probably the Bear we have the most trouble with because she knows how to fall. She drew many charging fouls.

This is true. It may come back to bite her if she isn't careful. Recruits see that.

I will say this about the Baylor coach, she want last long because of losing games, blaming everyone but herself and blaming the refs. Baylor is use to winning, she is not a winner.

I can't get over the turnaround. Simply stunning.

Exactly! She’s a whiner not a winner!

Her demeanor after the game and during the interview was petty and immature for someone in her position. She didn’t so much as glance at Jennie and she barely touched her hand when she rushed through the handshake line with an angry look on her face.

I stopped watching her interview around the 15-20 minute mark. Did she ever raise her head to look at or acknowledge anyone in the room? Her behavior was not becoming of a head coach at any level.

Exactly...... the delay, the refs, blah, blah, blah. How about they just got whipped twice in the last week by a team many are starting to see is pretty good.

I noticed that as well. I pointed it out to my daughter.

Doesn't the Big XII fine or reprimand when coaches come out and complain about the officiating?

Such poor character to blame OU for.......travel delays. Surely she understands the point is to get the game played........

family night is not the priority here.

Seriously?

Not surprising, jmizzy. We have seen things the same way for a very long time!

You know, I actually wanted to like Baylor’s new coach. Kim Mulkey was a great coach, but I detested her so much I was hoping the new coach would be different. For now, the jury is still out for me.

Stay safe, my friend! It’s bitter cold and the streets are treacherous right now.

The Big 12 frowned on and reprimanded coaches for complaining about the officiating once. I have no idea what their policy is now, and I’m not sure they do either. The Big 12 ship seems to be sailing without a captain or a crew these days.
