#19 OU vs Kansas 2pm 3/5

'cuda: what do we need to do the rest of the way (KU game, Big 12 Tourney) to nail down a host spot in the first two rounds of the NCAA?

It does depend on what other teams presently on the 4 line and teams just outside the 4 line do. I think if we beat Kansas and then beat KSU in the Big 12 tourney we would be at least a 4 seed. Lose one of those games (unless we lose to Kansas but then make the Big 12 tourney finals) I think we slip to a 5 seed.

Indiana beating Maryland today probably guaranteed them a host spot…and I think Maryland also will still host.

In a way, I'm glad we didn't come back and win this game. They seem to have the attitude that they can play poorly for 3 quarters and turn it on in the 4th quarter and win games. That might work against poor teams but it won't work against good teams.

Skylar Vann was the only player who played close to her potential today. Everyone else played far below their potential.

Of course my basketball foundation is ole school fundamentals and playing quality defense. It seems to me Jennie focuses on neither. Also I like Kelbie's long term potential but until she learns better ball control and shot selection she would be getting splinters sitting on the bench with the game on the line. JMHO.

Bingo!!!

Agreed about Kelbie. What she does might have worked in high school, but when she charges to the basket going up against two or more opponents with position and bigger she always loses plus doesn't get a foul called to bail her out. She needs to sit when she does this stuff.

I think Jennie is so busy trying to bring this team to a new way of playing to get us back to being competitive that the fundamentals and better defense is not able to improve. Now that we are playing in a way that most of the top teams are playing, we can focus on the fundamentals and defense. For me, I think it is one thing at a time. We are so far off the top level that we can't expect to fix everything all at once.

Don't be discouraged. I believe Jennie will get those things up to par. I would guess that Madi is returning because we are on the verge of putting all the pieces together. We now have a smart offense and game plans, now we can put our defense and fundamentals on point and with the addition of some semblance of height and interior presence we should be seeing great things next year

Think about it. How many years did we miss the NCAA tourney? And now, after only one season with new couching staff, we are being talked about as a 4 seed??? We have basically the same players as last year. That is truly amazing.

We did come back, and should have won, but as soon as we got ahead we went brain dead again. When no one but Vann came make a basket we are in trouble especially with our requisite 20+ TO and horrible transition defense.
And we need some real bigs. 6'3" isn't big enough, Vann needs to be able to play the 4 not the post. She's very talented she needs to be getting 30+ min per game.

This^^^^

We shot 40 3's today......we need a big girl who can be an offensive force in the paint.

The last two games (and really all year) Vann has played well....she does need to get more minutes.
But Madi and Kelbie need to quit making so many turnovers. Madi had 5 today and Kelbie had 7.....that's way too many!

Madi and Kelbie had 12 TOs today but they are averaging almost 8 (Madi 4.0 and Kelbie 3.7) per game. Kelbie has only 4 more assists than TOs (104 vs 100) for a point guard. Terrible!!!

Baylor has two guards one with 87 more (154-67) assist than TOs and the other 75 more (132-57). For the season Baylor has only 57 fewer assist but also has 190 fewer TOs. OU assist-TO= -1 for the season. Baylor +133.

A little difficult to gauge when the current players are all recruits from the past coaching staff. I really, really hope Jenny knows how amazing she has been this year to take players she didn’t recruit and fit them into her system. She has absolutely nothing to prove in my eyes. We haven’t been in the NCAA discussion for some time.

I have so much faith in this current coaching staff. Did anyone ever watch assistant coach Oshahor play? I loved watching her play, she reminded me so much of Courtney Paris. Amy Wright? She came from Texas A & M and is our lead recruiting coordinator.

I hate to see them put up 3 after 3 after 3 but Kansas was playing pretty disruptive defense in the lane, and those Kansas girls have some LONG arms.

We get another chance on Friday in Kansas City and we get Kansas again.

It is so nice to see some enthusiasm for the program, attendance has improved, I thought it got drug into the gutter because it felt like OU was so unwilling to make a coaching change. I would say it has tripled in this year alone.

I'm with spock. Kelbie has unlimited potential, but I couldn't play her much at the moment. You just have to use better judgment. The sad part of her unwillingness to calm down and get under control and learn to use her speed is that she could make us an entirely different team and virtually impossible to defend. Would open up Taylor I think

I want the girls to win and do well. I have been following OU women's basketball since before Sherri. But, over the last few years, I simply couldn't watch the women play. Win or lose, the constant silly turnovers just kept me from watching the games. Watching was bad for my blood pressure.

Early this year, I thought I saw substantial improvement in this area and began watching the games again and went to a couple live. Just can't do it now. I turn it on for a minute, but then just have to turn it off. Sometimes we only get a shot on goal 1/3 to 1/2 of the time. Just can't watch it.

I am encouraged by the direction of the team and I will just have to keep looking at box scores and just start fresh next year and see if there is some improvement.

Bad loss! Hate to see us leaking oil this late.

Wow!!! Thanks for sharing this....

Sadly the Sooners really don't have the 7'-11' jump shot off of penetration in their arsenal when the opponent can defend the paint with length. But today that shot 7'-11' shot seems to be from a different era. Long forgotten.
