Looks to me that the staff may still take another 2014 player.

Couple things I'm hearing and seeing...

@JucoRecruiting: Willie Atwood's (6-8/F/2014/Connors State) recruitment continuing to pick up. Had Oklahoma in to see him last night.

Also a 6'4 SG out of Eastern... Not sure if ou has contacted him at all, but a scoring guard.

Looks like Atwood is becoming a hot commodity as of late.

Any chance the guard out of Eastern could be this guy?

Why wouldn't we take another PF?

I don't know that people are correct that OU won't take another PF but I suspect the reason they believe that is because OU will have Spangler, Bennett, Lattin and McNease next season. Additionally, Buford is 6'7" and might be able to play in the post.

There is also C. J. Cole. But I haven't seen anything to suggest that he will be ready to contribute anytime soon. I think it's possible, maybe likely, Bennett will be better next year. Most Juco players improve a lot from their junior to their senior seasons.

I also feel good about Lattin. With the numbers he's putting up right now, I think it's safe to assume that he will be a key member of our rotation at some level. I'm not so sure about Buford and McNeace. By all of the accounts I've read, McNeace has a huge upside, but he's far from a finished product on the offensive end. He might even be a candidate for a redshirt. I doubt if Buford redshirts. But I don't think any of us know if he will be ready to contribute right away.

So, while some may wonder why OU would be interested in signing a Juco PF, the reason could lie in the unknowns I addressed. Unlike this year, we'll have plenty of depth in the post next season. I'm just not sure how many of those players will be ready to contribute at a reasonably high level in our 8 to 9 man rotation?

I'm for taking any player who can score, rebound and play defense, regardless of the position.

Not only am I for that too, we need another next season contributor in the 2014 class.

I like the Iowa St. plan of only playing 6 or 7. But, as long as Coach wants to play 9 or 10, we need 9 or 10 that can get after it.

next year we have buddy Isiah Jordan Jelan and FRank returning .. 5 guys for 3 spots ..

spangler and bennett are back .. that is 7 guys that are going to play ..

2 of the 3 frosh F will play and there is a great chance that 1 of them starts ..

Injuries/fouls. Wouldn't it be OK if they brought someone in that could beat out someone that we have?

Amen. I still think we need a back up PG to be a top tier team. Hornbeak is a good wing, but not as good at the 1.

Lattin is having a great senior year and the coaches expect him to play a bunch next year.

When your mom played in the WNBA and your paternal grandfather played in the NBA, there are pretty good odds you will have the athletic ability to be a really good college basketball player.

I am very excited about Lattin. I think he has the chance to be the next great player at OU and I mean better than everyone on the team right now.

Bump. I have no more info, but I think we still take someone in this class.

Taking a power forward (that is ready to play, and CAN play) would allow us to redshirt McNeace, and still maintain a 5 deep set of post men (Buford, Spangler, Lattin, Bennett, new guy). It would also give us the post depth to play Buford at the three some, if the coaches want to do that next year. I'm not sure that will be necessary, but we really don't have a true backup for Hield next year with Neal leaving. So Buford may play that role.

Buford is going to start... I assume. He is a star in the making.

From what I understand, Buford is being brought in to replace Cam. Doesn't mean he will, just that is the plan.

I like your idea to bring in another big to increase our post depth and to give us the option of redshirting McNeace. It would be a shame to play the kid if he's not ready. Sitting out a season would give him more time to develop physically as well as to work on his game. Four deep in the post simply isn't enough to make it through a long, grueling season. One injury and you're in a bit of trouble with only four.

If we can't sign a big in April worth the ship, I wouldn't mind if we use it on a scoring wing who could play more than one position. While Buford appears to be the heir apparent to Cam, he may not be ready to contribute right away.
