2016-17 Season: What Players Big 12 Teams are Losing, Returning, and Adding

Thanks, Nalen!

Tech seems to be loading up on juco transfers. Anyone out there think they'll prove everyone wrong about juco players by being competitive next season?

They return 4 sophomore starters who have been starting together for 2 years now... Keenan Evans, Justin Gray, Zach Smith, Norense Odiase, and Aaron Ross was great for them this year.

They need support players... I like the moves they have made. This guy they just signed averaged 7 points per game as a freshman at Southern Miss before transferring to juco... The other guy, Niem Stevenson, might be the best guard in juco basketball. 6'5'', 26 ppg, had a lot of high major offers.

With these guys, Tech has about 8 juniors on their team next year so they should be experienced and very athletic. They need these two guys they signed to be able to shoot the ball though.

Makes sense. I don't keep up with roster changes in the Big 12 the way you and some others do. So, as you said, these additions are more to fill a need, not shore up a depleted roster. Thanks for the heads up!

OSU supposedly got a commitment from a Dutch 7-footer. Kinda sounds like a project but maybe being a Euro he will have some skills.

Kansas' Cheick Diallo(6'9 Fr C) is hiring an agent and leaving for the NBA draft. Averaged 3.0 ppg/2.5 rpg during the 2015-16 season.

Kansas added Liberty transfer Evan Maxwell(6'10 Jr C). He will redshirt during the 2016-17 season. Averaged 10.0 ppg/4.8 rpg as a So at Liberty during the 2015-16 season.

Oklahoma State's Tyree Griffin(5'10 So PG) is transferring. Averaged 5.2 ppg/3.9 apg/3.0 rpg during the 2015-16 season.

Burton is leaving them too. He's got more of a rebuild up there than a lot of people realize.

Meh, if Evans and Forte stay healthy Griffin was going to play 8-10 minutes a game at best. And they have 3 guards coming in. Burton was a role player who was going to fight with Hammonds, Shine, Carroll and Dillard for playing time. I think they can live with trading him for a 7 foot freshman.

Burton was another small forward force to play out of position at the 4 just like every small forward that Travis Ford brought in. He could end up being good with a different team playing his natural position.

I'd be pretty surprised if they make the NCAA tourney prior to his 3rd season as coach. They haven't just been a poorly coached team these past few years. They've been a poorly constructed program. That will take time in recruiting and development to fix.

Yeah, I think the only hope they have from being at the bottom of the conference is if Evans can play like Chris Paul on a nightly basis. The rest of that squad are role players at best and I'm not sold on all the Underwood hype yet.

I think once he gets his players in and establishes his culture, they'll do fine. I think there is some upward mobility in the Big 12 behind KU and OU over the next few years. Iowa State is definitely trending down and I think it's obvious Baylor has maxed out under Drew. I also expect this FR class to be Weber's last gasp at KState. Will be interesting to see who gets their house in order first; the other OK school or TCU...

I disagree with the Baylor comment. I think Drew has done his best coaching of late with not as near as talented of teams as he used to have.
ISU - this might be there last ride next year with there 6 seniors
I agree with the rest. I think OSU is a wild horse though. A new coach with a healthy Evans and Forte and him actually playing guys in their right spots...interesting to see what they do next year but I doubt they finish higher than 5th in the Big 12
