2019 Juco Williams Committed

I didn't realize they were a DIi JUCO. Still looks like he could be a solid player.

yup...lower level Juco. Prob equal to NAIA/D2 schools.

Not saying he isn't good, just a lower level division.

What?? Udoh was a 6'10" PF/C. Long and lanky. Patillo was a 6'6" PF with crazy athleticism. They were nothing alike.

Ohh patillo wasn't a shot blocker freak athlete..... and udoh wasn't a shot blocker freak athlete.. oh ok.

Patillo was lanky too. Just bc they aren't identical size doesn't mean they can't be similar players

Lol! You used the word "Clone". Just because they were both good shot blockers doesn't make them the same player. And Patillo wasn't lanky. Shawn Kemp would have been a better comparison.

Lol and.... shawn kemp was... 6'10. :facepalm so your own comparison belies your own logic..

Here’s a quote from a JUCO scout when I asked him about Williams:

“Tough as hell and a big time motor. Don't let the level of the JUCO bother you he just wanted to start out close to home. He's a HM player”

Surely Kruger/OU is due for a JUCO to pan out, right?

Someone on here mentioned Jaison Williams from the Sampson era as a possible comp. That would sure be great!

Juan Patillo = Daryan Selvy.

Selvy's Junior College stat line was crazy. I loved his junk yard dog approach and still remember how wide of a defensive stance he would get in at the top of the key and slap the court. The guy had a Kevin Garnet type of basketball attitude. If Sampson could genetically develop a basketball ball toughness, Selvy would have to be on the short list.

Selves' bio: Garnered first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-America acclaim as a sophomore at Carl Albert Junior College ... Also named NJCAA Region 2 Player of the Year ... Averaged 22.9 points, 12.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 4.7 steals per contest ... Guided Carl Albert to a 23-7 overall record and first-place region finish. Coached by Ron Murphree.

I was trying to think of what former Sooner juco players fit the mold of Alondes. Terrell Everett, Michael Neal, Kelly Newton, Nolan Johnson, Nate Erdmann, Corey Brewer, Michael Johnson, Jason Derrick, Quannas White, kid from North or South Carolina (name escapes me). Most of these guys were really good to great players. It goes without saying that Alondes has his work cut out to be as impactful of a player but it's fun to go down memory lane. I've seen Alondes size range from 6'3" to 6'5" and weight from 190 to 220. Hope the staff found a contributor to help close out a really solid class.

“Tough as hell and a big time motor.”

I’m sold!

Seems to me our 2019 class is made up of tough players with high motors—a winning combination in my book!

Yep all 5 seem to be wired that way. I guess Lon wasn't lying when he said he'd start focusing on those types of players again.

Agreed. I think that’s what we’ll see when the season tips off in November. Lon promised that defense will be a focus this season, and I believe him.

We're talking stylistically. Yes Kemp and Udoh are 6'10" but have drastically different games and body types. Spin it however you want but your original comparison is way off base.

ABD must be rock hard right now.

I’m not expecting much from this guy but hope he proves me wrong.

If we choose to go the grad transfer route, which I think we will, and land a player that will likely start for us, then this recruiting class is a massive success.

That'd be four guys everyone is happy with and two others (the Jucos) we'll wait and see on.

Lord knows we can use all the tough as hell/high motor players we can get our hands on.

I would disagree, if we bring in 2 jucos and 3 freshmen along with a transfer becoming eligible and we still need a grad for a starting position.

Same here! Coach is tired of the lack of toughness the last two years on the team.

You have to believe he is balancing the classes plus getting some maturity for the team next year.

Patillo was a thug before he ever showed up and Norman and very few schools actually were offering him. It was a shock he lasted as long as he did in Norman.

What exactly made Patillo a thug? I don't recall any arrests or fights in practice or dirty play during games.
