2021 Recruiting

uh, you can't improve 5's when you don't recruit any.

there's truth in every joke. ;)

Absolutely a great coach! Legend. HOF. But you’re wrong on this one.

But he had for 1 year. He was here 4. To give all the credit to few.... is comical.

If you’ve forgotten zags vs ou Spangler. Check here.

I rember Sophomore Spangler very well. Essentially the same player as Senior Spangler, though developed a better 3-ball. Not much overall progression. I suppose you could give credit to Capel for his redshirt year.

Statistically, you are correct. Ryan Spangler's main improvements were with not "wearing down" late in the season - you will notice a healthy difference in his average minutes between his sophomore and senior seasons. It didn't translate to more points, but it did to assists. Since Buddy was the man, Ryan just needed to be on the floor and a threat...that helped us get to the FF.

One thing I never understood was why Lon (or the coaches prior) never made a serious play to hire Clifford Ray as an assistant. Perhaps they couldn't afford him, but you have an alum who just happened to be regarded for many years as "the BEST big-man coach in the NBA".

As I remember it, Spangler played the 4 with Khadeem Lattin at the 5. Spangler was the #4 option on offense behind Buddy, Cousins, and Woodard. Spangler definitely developed, he was tough defensively and on the boards. Yes, he was left open for 3's and hit quite a few, however, he was never going to be the go to guy.

Despite McNease’s disappointing senior year he improved a huge amount.

Trey Alexander listed his top 7. Grambling State, OU, KU, Arkansas, Georgia, Ole Miss and Auburn.
I guess he is making a social statement with Grambling. I’m betting Heritage Hall has nicer facilities and buses. Hopefully Auburn isn’t willing to pay him.

No idea where he goes. The coaches have recruited him very hard. It doesn’t seem like he is wants to be in Norman. I hate when any OU team doesn’t give max attention to in state recruits. It also bothers me if the kid doesn’t decide one way or the other after a reasonable time. We have given max effort. Hope he is a Sooner but I wouldn’t turn anyone else down waiting on him.

Odd to see four SEC schools in his top seven. Not sure what the draw would be there, unless he just likes the south.

If he's willing to let Auburn pay him (I have no idea one way or the other), we're better off with him.

Ou has essentially stopped recruiting him. Still in contact but long shot on his part.

Collins is priority one.

Is OU done recruiting until transfers start happening? With the ability of seniors being able to stay & the only need would be bigs or top end talent. I don’t see a high schooler left that OU is in on, although Garro came out of nowhere.

Lon will likely add 2 of the following 3 to complete another underwhelming recruiting cycle.

1. Juco
2. Transfer
3. Project big

Why wait to see who gets signed or brought in? Might as well start with the doom and gloom posts now, right? Get a jump on the negativity.

Definitely seems silly to react that way simply based on a speculative post by someone who isn’t even claiming to have inside info.

One other thing that interests me about this topic: would people rather sign 5 stars or win? Obviously you want to do both, I get that. But some of the schools that sign the occasional 5 star don’t exactly have a great track record of turning that into sustained success. Like, you know, making the tournament 7 of 8 years.

You don't really need inside info to see where this is going. Lon doesn't pull 4*/5* out of his hat starting from scratch in October.

Why do you only come around when it fits your narrative?

I prefer a team like Buddy's sr year. No 5*. Just a bunch of hard working 4 year players that get better every year.
Trae Young did very little for us in the scheme of things.

Problem is, we haven't had hard working players that get better every year since 2015.

You’re right. Doo and Brady definitely didn’t improve. And I’m glad you’re in the gym and weight room to know who works hard.

Again, it’s absolutely amazing that we keep making the tournament every year with untalented, lazy players and incompetent coaches who are past their prime. Smoke and mirrors, I guess. Or maybe it’s the huge home court advantage we enjoy.
