'24 NCAA Tourney Discussion Thread

Are we going to keep playing this game all tournament?
I think comparing Oklahoma to all the bubble teams would be a reasonable expectation, yes?

Feel free to just not let it bother you though.

(Kinda like when the SEC is mentioned and people lose their minds no one brought up the Big12...)

kinda happy Northwestern won, the last couple of minutes in regulation the refs seemed like they did everything they could to let FAU win

So let’s do that. FAU scored fewer than 60 once all season. They averaged 83 per game, which was 15th in the country. We averaged 75.5 and were 124th in the country. If you prefer KenPom, they had the 17th best offense, while the fighting Mosers were 51st.

Western Kentucky just went on a run vs Marquette. Probably go into the half leading them.

See, citing stats wasn't so hard. In fact, it was appreciated.

Technically twice, if you count today, but OU had scored 0 this postseason, so that counts as well.

Weird fact, OU was 49th last night, moved to 51st today. I find that interesting

I have no problem with stats. The one you chose is just incredibly random. 60 is an arbitrary cutoff, and we had a lot of games where we scored barely over 60. In any event, “number of times held under x” isn’t a factor that anyone uses to determine the field, so it just seemed weird.

I did that because both teams were below 60 at the end of regulation, bc it is a tournament thread and I am watching all the games. Not really weird, at all.

You should caveat that FAU also has the 95th SOS and OU has the 35th in KenPom, that absolutely factors into scoring. (NET SOS 21 for OU and 99 for FAU)

For those who are upset that FAU got in, just a reminder:

OU only had two games where they scored below 60 points.

That is all.
At a minimum, they were overseeded. Coming from the porous AAC, not winning the conference regular season, or their tourney, they should have been, at best, a 10/11 seed.

In reality, they probably didn't deserve inclusion at all.

It was almost better in the 90s when you sometimes had 6 games on at once during certain times. And they would cut locally to games that were closer if one was a blowout. They basically set games now to where there is advertising on at the same time at all of them more times than not.

Marquette ran right back into the lead after halftime.

Western Kentucky/Marquette is also still a game. Marquette feels like they have control of it right now but it's still close.

KenPom already factors that in.

Marquette has put away that one.

UAB and San Diego State could go down to the final possession.

Marquette will hold on. San Diego State will hold on.

Thank you SDSU. I needed that ($). Had to make up for the terrible +14.5 Colgate pick.
